y the shores of Greenbrier River By the Shiny Knapps Creek Water. Stood a fortress pledged to learning, Pledged to teaching, those who sought such. Tall around her rise the mountain Symbolising strength and grandeur Casting on our teaching fortress Light on subjects thus far dark. Here we entered seeking knowledge 01' a world which lay before us Here we found along with knowledge Alma Mater who adored us Taught us richness of companions Called us each her favored child. Four full years, maternal instinct Made her nurse each undertaking Four full years her understanding Made us grown ups in the making. When the trail became quite rugged And the hills too steep for climbing Then came Alma Mater's message ''Perseverencev-clearly chiming. Time rushed on without our pausing Just to count our joyfilled hours Then a bolt of realization Told us we had gained our powers. Then-all grateful youths we left her Left to other ones our haunt Taking with us priceless treasures All that one could ask or want. There she stands, yet tall and stately As the day she welcomed us Now awaits more foster children Who in her will place their trust- Trust that she will make them men. -JUANITA WAUGH
