Row 2: George Barson, lVlark Reay,Jeff Dillon, Tim Hahn, lVlike Fergason, David Pritchard, Arthur Vllelty, Jerry lVloffet, Bob The 1969 Freshman Football Team ended an en- couraging season with a 2-5. In spite of the setback of getting started late in the year, the young Duke gridders rated one hundred per cent in enthusiasm and team spirit. Even though the Frosh played many of the toughest teams in the area, they went into every game with the determination to win, The young Dukes had a fine ground attack with a strong line and good backs. Two of the stronger backs were Dave Gabric and lVlark Flitcraft. lVlike Hoover joined the squad for his first year of football and proceeded to do a fine job throughout the season. Kerry Brush, a transfer in his first year at lVlarlington, came on strongly as a guard. Coaches Parker and Schnoke, both in their first year of coaching at lVlarlington, did an excellent job of priming the team for tough Federal League play. Contrary to the appearance of their record, these fine fresh man football players were winners in enthu- siasm, drive, and spirit. Johnston. Back Row: Richard Battershell, Kenneth Hall, Dennis Close, Randy Hustead, Sam lVlelarangno, Jim France, Tony Kindler, Richard Thornberry, Tim Tasker, John Holsopple, Mark Drummand, Dave lVlerryman, Tom Green, Donald Smith, The 1969 Eighth Grade Football team put its best foot forward on the playing field as well as learning much about the gridiron sport. Being the first year of tackle football for most of these boys, they had to concentrate on learning nevv skills, as they will be the varsity players in the coming years.
