Language Clubs Stimulate Interests Under the guidance of Mrs. Reighard, the Latin Club learned many nevv and interesting facts about Roman life. To demonstrate Roman vvays, nevv mem- bers vvere sold as slaves. Later in the year they served their masters at the annual Roman banquet. The stu- dents joining the club vvere informally initiated by the officers and older members. At a later meeting an impressive formal initiation by candlelight made the students official members of the Latini Socii. Any student taking French vvas eligible to become a member of French Club. The club strived to intro- duce nevv ideas about French culture, language, and customs. To do so, they held an annual banquet at vvhich French customs vvere displayed. The club sponsored a bake sale at vvhich members dressed in native costumes of France and sold French pastries. They also enjoyed a Christmas party celebrated on Jan. 6, The Holiday of the Three Kings vvhich is similar to Christmas Day for the French. at Y -r J Lynn Ouillman purchases French pastries from Joy Aellig, Becky Clark, and Nancy Phillips.
