Clubs Extend Knowledge With Mr. McCowen as their adviser, Commercial Club members learned more about secretarial work. They were entertained with various speakers and questioned a panel of business school graduates. Members also went on a field trip and held a banquet in the spring. Experience gained through the club and classroom work proved to be an asset to the students. Under the direction of their adviser, Mr. Kay Vaughan, members of the Science Club developed new interest in the field of modern sciences. Their activities included field trips, parking cars at basket- ball games, and guest speakers. Members also worked on projects which were shown at the Annual Science Fair in the Spring. In its second year of existence, the Radio Club, directed by Mr. Simpson, gained new knowledge and facts about ham radios. They enjoyed many activities pertaining to this subject. One of the highlights of the year was the demonstration offered at openhouse in which members demonstrated how to reach distant places. Sherry Moore and Mary Gwynne, Commercial Club members, gain experi- ence working office equipment. Q. , f t Home Ec. students learn more about and sisters to school. .,,,, J r fl child care by bringing their brothers The National objectives of the Future Home- makers of America this year were to strengthen bonds within the family and community and to help youth comprehend problems of society and con- tribute to their solution. At each meeting, one of these objectives was used as a basis for their activities. A few of these projects were sending letters to service- men, the annual parent-daughter banquet, at which officers were installed, and a bake sale. The club also enjoyed a picnic at Tannenhauf Golf Course and var- ious speakers such as an exchange student from lce- land. In order to promote patriotism on Memorial Day the F.H.A. declared it red, white, and blue dress- up day. The motto was Toward New Horizons , and club colors were red and white. Their flower was the red rose. Degrees were awarded to members according to their achievement and dedication. These degrees were Junior Homemaker Chapter, Homemaker, and State Homemakers symbolized by the key, scroll, and torch respectively. .
