Earning a letter in one or more sports enabled a boy to become a member of Varsity M Club. It was an organization showing much pride and better-than- average achievement in all sports. Not only were mem- bers outstanding in athletics, but each had high stan- dards and displayed sportsmanship and school spirit. The club was advised by head basketball coach Roger Schnoke and head football coach Joe Banks. Spirit vvas plentiful vvhen members of Pep Club were around. Students backed players during football and basketball seasons, and vvere always there with an extra boost. Projects included a fall barbershop quartet program, the selling of shakers, victory ribbons, and other spirit-makers during the year. Y-Teen, Do Your Own Thing was the state-wide theme for 1969-70 Y-Teen clubs. Girls bettered their community while learning that doing their own thing could benefit others as well as themselves. The club's affiliation with the Y.W.C.A. gives some hint as to its purpose. Friendship, respect, and con- sideration were key words in the Y-Teen Clubs. The Y.W.C.A. gave girls the opportunity to put these words into action with programs and projects aimed at making a better world. The Alliance Nursing Home was adopted by Senior Y-Teens. Throughout the year, girls visited the patients weekly and carried out special programs and activities for holidays. Members found that patients appreciated the time they gave, and girls enjoyed the Wednesday nights spent visiting, writing letters, and watching television with them. Junior High Y-Teens enjoyed a Christmas shopping trip to Mellett Mall in Canton. Mothers drove the girls who spent the afternoon browsing and picking out gifts. An Easter service project made Easter much brighter for a family otherwise without that special Easter dinner. The success of each club was largely due to each girl's participation and willingness to accept responsi- bility. Girls took pride in their club and made the community more aware that teenagers really do care. ... -w.,,t..,i5,,,..
