S B LLDOGS OPEN WITH A WINNER Marlin Rolls Over Rosebud The Bulldogs, who lost to the Cougars last year, had re- venge in their eyes. Fruidenberg started by passing to Ray Shorter for one score and then passed to Tommy jackson for another. The half time score was 13-O. In the second half Fruiden- berg took the snap and plunged over for the Bulldogs' final score. The Marlin defense was very tough in le t- ting the Cougars score ONLY 6 points. In the first quarter ofthe game, it was almost a dead lock. Neither team could get it together. Before the half ended, Fruidenberg passed to White for the touchdown. The two extra point try was good. Half time score was Marlin 8 and Waxahachie 0. The In- dians scored in the fourth quarter but were denied the point-after try, and the Bulldogs had their first district win ofthe 1974 season. In the first quar- ter action the dogs looked doomed. The Lions got the lead. Fruidenberg started passing to Shorter and jackson for short gainers and then hit Screws for a touchdown. Martinez connected with Screws for the two PAT. The score at the half was 8-7. Second half action consisted mainly of Marlin defense. Fruidenberg passed to White for a score. Midway Surprise s Marlin After the previous wins, the Dogs didn't seem very high for the game. lt showed that this was going to be hazardous to their record. Midway jumped out into a lead by scoring in the first quarter. Marlin managed to score before the halfand tied the game 7-7. In the second half the panthcrs scored twice before Fruidenberg passed to Lofton for the Dogs only score ofthe half. The final score was Midway-19 and Marlin-13. B5 S . t , ygyy. H n.....,f'.z-T .I y , l 33' MQ M it UPSETS AND HEARTBREAKS , fav J, ,sf LaVega Upsets Marlin Coming into the game with 3 wins and 1 loss, it looked good forthe Dogs even though LaVega had other ideas. LaVega was fired up after they had tied with Ennis. Marlin Started With mistakes, and the Pirates took them with pleasure by scoring 3 times. Martinez did score on a pass from Fruidenberg and the Dogs were trailing 21-6 at the half. In the second half the dogs scored once more but were out done by the pirates. A AQ .Ami Marlin Loses Heart Breaker Marlin traveled to Desoto for a game with the Eagles. In the first half, Fruidenberg passed to Shorter for the only touchdown for the dogs. Coffer put his toe into a 23 yard field goal and helped Marlin to a 10-O halftime lead. The 18 senior Bulldogs were honorary captains. Fruidenberg passed to his receivers and gave the ball to jones who ran for a touchdown from 12 yds. Then Shorter re- ceived a 10-yard pass good for the T.D. and later scored on a 38-yard pass which ended the scoring of the game. Since this was the last Homecoming forthe seniors, the game was dedicated to them with the score of 24 to O over the Mexia Blackcats. L ' Cade ts Conquer Marlin Even though the Bulldogs beat the Blackcats at Home- coming, it meant nothing to the Cadets. The Dogs jumped out into the lead on a blocked punt by Laven- ton. It didn't last long because Connally scored twice to Marlin's once. The score was 12-6 at the half. The second half was the Cadet's before the Dogs could score on a pass from Fruidenberg to White. In the end, Marlin came up short by 10 points. And it seemed that it was all they could do just to keep it close. This time it was to be different. Fruidenberg and the offense burned up yardage and scored on a 25 yd. pass to Shorter. PAT. wasn't good and when Ennis scored, they lead 7-6. Coffer kicked a 25 yard field goal, and the dogs lead at the halfby the score of 17-7 after Fruidenberg dived over for a score. Bulldogs Lynch Lancaster This was to be the last game of the season for the dogs. It would tell the players if they had had a successful season or not. Fruidenberg handed the ball to jones early in the game. Later he scored from eight yds. out and then again from two yards. Then Fruidenberg turned to his receivers. He hit White on short pass for another score. Jones pushed his way over for the dogs' final score from six yards. Lancaster made one score and made che score sound a little better. The rainbow was built by the junior class and was ridden by Cheryl Ballman, the junior princess. Heaven Scent'. A first place prize to the senior Class in the ,74 Homecoming parade. The float ridden by Antoinette Roppolo, senior princess, was ofa large skunk. .. Kathy Phipps carried out the patriotic theme of the Masque and Gavel car. The car was covered in red, white, and blue Spanish Club did it again. The car Won first place again this year, it was ridden by Mari Amundsen. It carried out the usual colorful theme. Original idea pays off for publication. The car was covered with newspapers and tall white letters proclaiming the news to come. The band marched in the Cotton Bowl for the SMU-Oregan State football game as part of the pre-game show. They attended the Texas State Fair in Dallas. The band presented a Christmas concert, a spring con- cert, marched in the homecoming and Christmas parades and attend- ed contest. They also sold fruit- cakes and worked in the consession stands at junior varsity games to make money for new uniforms.
