Drawing of the new Marlin High School complex. As the sun sets on this Marlin High School building, with the dawn comes a vast awakening and a realization of a dream come true. That dream is the new high school. This old building, too, was once a dream come true for students not unlike ourselves. It had its be- ginning in 1917 under the architectural guidance of Fonzie E. Robertson. School board members at this time as listed on the cornerstone were: W. E. Hunnicutt, president, T. A. Cheeves, vice president, W. T. Goode, secretary, Tom Connally, J. G. Hollo- way, R. E. L. Tomlinson, J. C. Fountain, and A. C. Ferguson, superintendent. The school was originally built to house only 300 students, but Marlin's growth has made it necessary to extend the facilities. Through a successful bond election on March 6, 1971, this extension has been realized. Due to the efforts of students of Marlin High School and concerned citizens of Marlin, the issue passed favoring the construction of a new building. The new building will be located at the former E. G. Mier property at the east edge of the city limits. It will feature an auditorium, a gymnasium, and an area vocational-technical school. The new high school building will be carpeted, and air conditioned. Thus an era ends and an era begins for Marlin High School as we move on.
