Af.5'0Al PREPARING FUR OUR DECADE We stand on the brink of a new horizon, our decade of the 7O's. We have before us harmony or strife, prosperity or poverty, war or peace. Within these ten short years we will become local, national, and even world leaders. Such a challenge imposes the re- sponsibility of preparation. To prepare to lead this world toward peace, harmony, and prosperity, and away from strife and prejudice, we attend Marlin High School. Yet, the efforts of our teachers to teach become void without individual desire to learn. The student must learn all he can while he can, because, in the end, all the solutions to all the problems ofthe world come down to the individual. Whether the individual is able to cope with these problems or not will de- pend upon his preparation--now. Mrs. Luther emphasizes that the quality ofthe education ofa person is oftenjudged by the manner in which he speaks and writes. To achieve this a person must have a good background in the use of his language. Also, he must learn to appreciate the literary works of those greater writers and speakers who have gone before him ir1 order to write and speak well himself. Mrs. Luther has suc- ceeded in teaching her students these things. Many students have received from her their final polishing before stepping into the future. TUDE T LIFE During the summer months the students ofM.H.S. go their various ways on vaca tions, tojobs, orjust take it easy. No matter how you spent the summer, the experiences you went through, the way you reacted in various situations, and your attitude toward other people all af- fected your personality and helped prepare you for future situations. Did you react wisely or foolishly? Kindly or with hostility? As you face the future, you should remember that you are forming the attitude and habits that will follow you the rest of your life. On the basis of what you have done, are you ready to face the future? Are you prepared for our decade? SUMMER JOBS When the doors of M.H.S. are closed in May, the heads of many students are turned toward summerjobs at the various places of business in and around Marlin. These young industrialists work diligently to gain a lir- tle money and a lot of valuable experience to help them prepare for their decade. Many of these eager beavers continue to hold theirjobs throughout the following school year by participating in the I.C.T. and D.E. programs. pmt 'ia ff'3'Qf 1. UMMER BAND Having a good band involves hard work and long hours. M.H.S. has one ofthe best bands in Central Tex- as because of the early preparation for the coming school year which takes place during the summer. ' THE FISH Every body, at one time or another, has to go through a stage of life known as fish . This is a very important stage in the preparation of a high school stu clent. A stuclent's reaction to his initiation can either make friends or enemies and can influence his whole first year of high school. BACK T0 The 69-70 school year began with a spirit appropriate for the year that launches us in- to our exciting new decade. School opened unusually early, August 25, and the students CH 0 OL began preparing for the coming school year- a year full of experiences and knowledge which they will use as they take their place in the world of the 70's. :..,:.,ag:lg- f 5.5 f -.A ,- 7 mm ,. These people work hard, not only to prepare us for college orjobs, but also to instill in us the will to learn. When people such as these make sacrifices to teach us what they believe we need to know in order to be successful in life, they deserve respect and common courtesy We, as students, have the responsibility to help them teach us by listening attentive- ly in class and giving them our best at all times. If we give our best, they will do their best to prepare us for our decade. The administration creates the policies which direct us toward more fruitful lives Superintendent Sam Gray The rewarding use of our leisure time is exemplified in the activities of our leaders. They will be jobs that require mental exertion, but very little physical labor: As time goes on, physical fitness will become a vital part in the qual- ity and production limits which can be reached by individuals. If a person is physically fit, he is able to produce at a higher level of quality than a person out of shape. Sports in high school help to prepare a person for his future by emphasizing a sharp mind within a highly skilled body. Sports teach self-discipline and mental toughness which are two ofthe most important lessons a person can learn. The type of character a person has can often be found in his sports activities, and by being in sports a person helps to prepare himself for his future. 'ff y f , A-Q? Eff? Yet, as you think back over your high school years it won't be the empty rooms you remember. It will, instead, be the classrooms filled with laughing, joking, and sometimes serious people. It is these people-close friends, teachers, acquaintances, and even strangers-that are helping to shape your per- sonality traits, habits, and outlook on life. In the coming decade you will not be able to forget these people, because these people helped make up your life. They were helping to prepare you for your future because your future depends on people just like these. was .un .uf- Connie john John Joyce Adams Ballmann Banta Baysinger Santos Maxine Renefa Beltran Berezoski Bigham Raymond Evelyn Mamie Janis Blocker Boucher Bradley Breitkreutz Phyllis Oliver Ricky Breitkreutz Broadus Brown james Melissa Barbara A A...
