Thirty-one of those shy little tots have survived the terrors and trials of education. They are: Marilyn Cargill, Kenneth Cook, Beverly Cumper, Robert Earl, Doris Forbes, Elaine Forbes, Jim Foster, LeRoy Hager, Edrie Lou Herrmann, Frank Herron, Annette Heussner, Harold Heussner, Shirley Hoist, Karl Howard, Leonard Innes, Loris Laursen, Betty Miller, Charles Mittlestat, Maralene Olsen, Patsy Potter, Luke Riley, Dale Shaw, Katheryn Shier, Virginia Stolzman, Michael Sullivan, Jerry Weaver, Marlene Wiegert, Bill Wood, Keith Wood, Oliver Wood, and John Zuehlke. In the fall of '51 we began our march through high school and were given the impres- sive title, Class of '56. Harold Heussner took the lead, assisted by Ronda Kelly with Carol Ann Shields carefully recording our progress and Faye Ross in charge of our little bank account. Luke Riley was putting a good word in for us at Student Council. After the hilarity of initiation, we tried to settle down and put our newly accepted class motto, We build the ladder by which we climb, into action. In the fall of '52 we were off again towards the second exciting part of our journey into the realms of knowledge. We chose Cloyd Ramsey as our head man and Luke Riley as his trusty assistant. Ronda Kelly kept track of the minutes while Keith Wood carried our growing piggy-bank. Karl Howard was our voice at Student Council. After we had tor- mented and teased the new freshmen for a whole day, we treated them to a party and tasty feast which was named the Freshman-Sophomore Banquet. Later on in the year a King and Queen Ball was one of our highlighted events. Then after we had gone to Selfredge Field and Traffic Court in Detroit, we were ready to embark on the third phase of our journey. In our third year of high school, which began in the fall of 1954, we were finally in the group called UPPERCLASSMEN, To direct our class we chose Karl Howard and his close assistant Keith Wood, Jane Kroft was a faithful record keeper, while Harold Heussner kept track of our hard earned money. To get in a good word for the Junior Class, we sent Dale Shaw to the Student Council. This year marked our first year to have a play, namely, It's Great to be Crazy. We were very successful in presenting it. Next came the J-Hop. The presenting of this traditional dance was a pleasant and enjoyable experience for many members of the Class of '56. All those that attended liked the decorations in the gym, which coincided with the unique title, Hawiian Cruise. Our last big event of the year was the Junior-Senior Banquet. We were playing host to our beloved Seniors, It was hard to see those Seniors leave us, but we bade them farewell as to make room for next years Seniors, namely, the Class of '56. After a most pleasant summer, the Class of '56 entered into the last lap of its high school career. The Class found in Cloyd Ramsey the abilities for their leader in this last, but most important year. We chose Karl Howard as his trusty and helpful assistant. Beverly Cumper kept track of the events while Elaine Forbes accepted the position of treasurer of our now large bank account. We elected the worthy fellow, Bill Calkins, as our speaker in the Student Council. We again had the privilege of putting on a big dance, The Senior Prom. For the theme of this dance we chose, Southern Plantation. Every- one had fun in both presenting it and attending. it. Several other outstanding events which made up our senior year were: a successful senior play, Phantom in the High School, an interesting and educational Senior Government Day at Sandusky, and an enjoyable Senior Tea. The class below us, bade us farewell at the Junior-Senior Banquet, is truly capable of playing the honorable, though often difficult role of Seniors in the coming school year. The class spent five educational and exciting days at that fabulous city of New York, which combined with a pleasurable visit to Niagra Falls made up our Senior Trip. This Senior Year of ours, which was an exciting year for all, ending in a grand climax of Class Day, Baccaulaureate, and Commencement. The Class of '56 would like to express its thanks to the faculty for the services they have extended to us on our journey through high school. Our class would also like to extend its be st wishes to the Seniors of future years, and that their Senior year may be as full of exciting and educational ex- periences as our Senior year has been. 1 8 JANE KROFT She doesn't preach the Word, she lives it.
