We are extremely grateful for her en- couragement and enthusiasm at the times when our zeal was gone. She has helped to make our work enjoyable, and we trust that in the years to follow, this book will be a reminder of her last year at Marlette High School. In- creasing every year its membership, this class grew with leaps and bounds. Today we have 66 members. Of these members only 25 have been with us since the Kindergarten and are with us today. They are: Richard Benedict, Ronald Benedict, James Boyne, Mary Cargill, William Cumper, Ivan Davies, Sally Erwin, Calvin Harneck, Ed Herron, Joann Herron, Elaine Innes, Leslie Kraft, Richard Kraft, Wayne Lambert. Wayne Laursen, Lina Montgomery, Gordon Pabst, Tom Rudd, Glenna Shook, Charles Smith, Richard Spear, Lou- anne Tapson, Cora Jean Taylor, Marilyn Willis, and Kay Zuehlke, We could compare our trip through high school with a fast trip in a jet plane. In our freshman year we had as pilot, John Almas and co-pilot, Tom Lickf Chuck Smith kept track of this part of our journey and Richard Kraft handled the expenses. This year we were kicked around and initiated by the sophomores. After the day of initiation we were presented with a fine banquet with all the trimmings. This stage of our journey was brought to a conclusion with a Hobo Hop which was a big success. In the fall of '51 we started on the second phase of our journey. We had as head man, Jim Boyne and his assistant, Duane Thompson, leading the way. Richard Kraft was keeper of the records and Bonita Clark was guardian of the treasury. Now we are sophomores. Boy, we sure treated those fresh- men rough! But we shouldered the expenses of a banquet at night after a rug- ged day of initiation for the freshmen. After the famous Leap Year Hop we made a successful landing. In the fall of '52 we were off again to a more exciting journey. Duane Thompson was at the controls with Richard Kraft on hand to take over. Lou- anne Tapson preserved our activities for posterity and Aldine Willing paid the bills. In this Junior year the class presented the Junior Play entitled, January Thaw, in November. It went so well that we had a repeat perform- ance in January and the proceeds went to the Hospital Benefit. Our J-Hop, with the theme, Orienta1 Gardens, was a breathtaking event. In addition to these events, we were Hosts to the Seniors at the Jr. -Sr. Banquet. We trav- eled to the Detroit Police Station and Jefferson Beach. This ended our Junior year. As the plane zooms into space for the last time we have as President, Jim Boyneg Vice-President, Bill Cumperg Secretary, Kay Zuehlke, and Treasurer, Marilyn Willis. The first big event of the year was that well-loved Senior Play, Love Is In The Air. Next on our itinerary was the Senior Prom with the theme, Blue Heaven. Following this was the Senior Tea, Jr. -Sr. Banquet, and Senior Skip Day. The Senior Trip was an exciting five days in New York City. The jour- ney was finally ended with Baccalaureate and Commencement. Our fall activities began on Friday, September 4, when we held the first All- High Dance of the school year. We called the affair, The Lidlifter. We served punch and cookies for refreshments. Admission was charged according to the height of the fellow's girl. The price was five cents for every foot and one cent an inch beyond five feet. Next came National F, H. A, week. We began the week by attending the First Presbyterian Church on Sunday, November 1. Before the church service, we all had breakfast together at a local restaurant. Throughout that week we all wore the F, H, A, insignia. On Thursday, November 19, our formal initiation was held. Mothers of all members and initiates were invited. Candlelight initiation was conducted with out officers dressed in white. It was an impressive ceremony. Punch and cookies were served and the evening was pronounced as a very effective affair. 58 Reporter---Pat Redmond lla: June ,X ,N HRK ? 1-9 1 .W ,X A 4 s lx .i 2 Y , f ' ig i V 1 xii., A Qs XML M, f' Q?
