SCRIBE ,7 I95Z MARLETTE COMMUNITY SCHOOL Marlette, Michigan fW. --ISPWABK Alfred Amundsen Lionel Gibb Walter Nickel Superintendent Grade School Principal High School Principal Helen Richmond Doris Shaw Jimmie WOOC3. Secretary for Mr. Nickel Receptionist Secretary for Mr. Amundsen 2 Board of Education Alfred G. Amundsen, superintendent, Robert Willis, William McCrea, pres- ident, Kenneth Redmond, treasurerg Charles Wood, seoretaryg George Teale, The Marlette Community School was organized in its present form in 1935. Only Mr. McCrea of the original five-member Board of Education re- mains as a member of the board. Of the other four members Mr. Redmend and Mr. Wood have each served six years, Mr. Teale four years and Mr Willis two Years. ' ' Marlette Communitq School At the time that the school was re-organized in l935, many people thought that it was too large for the number of pupils--575--at that time. But now with lOOO pupils, the building and playground are very inadequate. And with the present rate of increase in the future, it will become impossible to provide space in the present building very shortly. The three first grades are now being housed in the Methodist Church house, and the Kindergarten in the Cottage. 3 Mrs. Amundsen Home Economics Hot Lunch F. H. A. Our class history is so dramatic ACT I Scene: Corridors, classrooms Setting: Plain, showing signs of use Tnne: September, l948 The Class of l952 parades onto the Stage. Their timidity and cur- ious mistakes furnish bright moments. The villain appears, he is called Study. His brother, Examination, nearly throws them for a loop at the end of the act, but by one last spurt of their tired brains, the cast, now known as FRESHMEN, win the battle, Pranks- ter Initiation sneaks up on them, but they give him the slip, Out- standing in memory is the Hayloft HOPE they enjoy it more than the audience! Leading actors and act- resses in this episode are: Mar- garet MacPherson, Paul Prowse, Lee Osborn, and Jean Willing. A Curtain Intermission ACT II Scene and Setting: Same Time: One year later The cast is now known as sopho- mores, owing to an advance in rank. Now they have achieved a charm, an ease of manner, and a feeling of security that was much more elabor- ate, as is also the make-up used. Neyer-to-be-forgotten is the Sweet- heart Roundup, an all-high dance at which Darla Harris, their own '52 Sweetheart, wins the original Sweetheart crown. They give an Initiation Banquet for the under- classmen who take the brunt of their Initiation attack. Leading the cast this year is a male quar- tetteg Paul Prowse, Ron Forbes, Ted Fitch, and Bob Rudd. Climaxing this act is another struggle against Study and Examinations, but once again the class emerges vic- torious. Curtain Intermission SENIOR HISTOR H' and colorful that it resembles a play: ACT III Time: One year later than Act II Again the same actors stagger into the same place, but they are so changed that each act seems like an entirely new play. They are now called juniors. The audience roars through The Baby Sitter, fjunior playj, waltzes through the J-Hop to a Hawaiian theme, enjoys the good food at the Junior-Senior banquet, which practically breaks those money-mad juniors! Of course only the play cast, led by Jim Heussner, JoAnn Kelly, Doris Cargill, and David Boyne, and their faculty guides, Ross and Gibb, enjoys the all-day journey to Canada to visit historic landmarks. Before the curtain falls, there is the inevit- able conflict with Exams again, but he is defeated quite badly, partly through his own brother, Study, who now helps them. Curtain Intermission ACT IV Time: 1951-1952 This finale displays more comedy than before, the entire scene seems to be viewed through rose-colored glasses. The whole fourth act is one continual round of pleasure for the cast and audience alike. The audience chills to HGhost Wanted,U the senior play, wades through snow to attend the Senior Prom, sits hushed while the seniors Hskippedn on Skip Dayg watches the fashion- able Senior Teag enjoys the Junior- Senior banquet at the expense of this year's juniors, travels by train to Washington and New York with sponsors Thompson and Boersma. David Boyne and actresses JoAnn Kelly, Jean Willing, and Mary Helen Mittlestat hold down leading roles. The play ends in a burst of glory, with flowers, music, congratula- tions--in short, graduation exer- cises, and they have the well-known and ever popular happy ending!
