Manager F fx '--' , CLASS HISTORY We began our high school life in the usual manner with our first experience that of being initiated in the 'House of Horrors W ur class party was agreed upon by everyone in the class as being asucoess Our officers for the year were: President Joe Stewart Vice President Laurita Ross Secretary Rita Hennessey Treasurer Bob Elliott Student Council Representative Dick Humes As Sophomores we had the job of initiating the Freshman Boy, in sk1rts and girls in overalls spent the day bowlng to sophomores and polishing their shoes Our class really won the 'Bond Drive' in a big way and our auction was un forgettable The student body elected Lois Morgan and Carl Smith as Secretary and Treas urer respectively of the Student Council We chose the following off1cers President Phyllis McMann Vice President Rusty Westover Secretary Marion Lane Treasurer Jerry Innes Student Council Representatives Grace Jackson and Dick Humes As Juniors we sponsored the 'Pumpkin Hop' which was one of the most suc cessful dances given in school The dance was well attended and enjoyed by everyone The 'Black Derby' was a blood curdling play and held everyone in suspense until Tom Sullivan was arrested for his many crimes Our motif for the J Hop was a Spanish Fiesta and in the middle of the dance floor was a wlshing well The Jr Sr Banquet also carried the Spanish theme A tasty chicken dinner was served after which we enjoyed a Spanish dance per formed by Tom Sullivan and Marion Lane Carl Smith was elected by the student body as President of the Student Treasurer of the Student Council Our officers were as follows: President Phyllls Hclann Vice President Vera Bodamer Secretary Onalee Almas Treasurer Clifford VanEeton Student Council Representatzves Lois Morgan and Ralph Rasmussen As Sen1ors we again proved our acting abllity 1n our presentation of the Senior play, 'Bobby in Between ' This year we sponsored the Sr Prom, a Christmas dance whlch was also a great success Editor of the year book was Rusty Westover, the artistic member of the Senlor class Student cash1er for the year was Vera Bodamer We have really enjoyed our hzgh school years, espec1ally class day, bacca lauerate, commencement and, last but not least, our long awaited senior trip Long in each of our hearts will remain our nSchool Days' in Karlette High These were our officers for the years President Clifford VanEaton Vice President Phyllis Hblann Secretary Lois Morgan Treasurer Jerry Innes Student Counc1l Representat1ves Rex Williams and Maxine Fellows Vxoe Pres1dent of Student Council Carl Smith O . V gf Q ' ffl, ,fl -T , .'4' 'ff A 5 K, . if SPORTS 1945 1946 New year new coach new team Football started the new school year out R member the crowds under the llghts on our home field or under Mother Nature's llghts at the other fields watching Fletch, Benedict, Rass, Mouse, Smlth Lester, and the rest inching their way towards the lar lette goal posts wlth eleven men from North Branch, Brown City, Peck, etc fighting to stop them brisk fall days and nights Home Ec hotdogs and cokes tempting the cheering fans, Rusty, Rita, Tom, Barb, Grace, and Bev straining against the fence while the more sedate audience broke their backs in the bleachers, the privileged cheerleaders having all the room in the world on the sidelines to Ju p around in, and the colder blooded people who tr1ed to park the1r cars on the fxeld so they could see Half and the band was on the field wlth Jerry leadxng the red and white mass of uniforms 1nto different formations Then suddenly the tenseness of the last quarter breaks into hilarious cheer or silent dejection as the gang made for the gym to step to Dale Ha11ack's orchestra Before you could turn around it was t1me for baskettall and the some gang of kids moved into the gym to send up their cheers for Marlette Marlette is definltely a basketball town and the kids have to come early to get seats away from their parents but that's the way it should be The front of the stage is lined with arm chair players and with the overflow of students the scoreboard that works sometimes is ready and away they go Mackie, Moldy, Wanda, and 'Red lead the crowd into different yells during all timeouts, automatlcs, half, quarters, and durlng the playlng they keep it up with a mixed selectxon of yells. Also, between the intervals of playing, there were hotdog and coke parades, snatches of music from the Pep band and Joan and her cornet adding originality to one of our yells Hardly a game went by that you didn't see Owen turn ing somersets on the floor or dlscussions w1th the Ref , Chuck hOp1Dg Jeanie noticed that la t basket he made, Coach Connolly chewlng g m vigorously while never taking his eyes off the floor, the sad dejected look on Marlette'a population when a foul was call ed on us, Lew getting the tallest and heavxest man on the opponents team, and the crowd t1on of Susie's saying 'How ya' getting to the next game?'
