GIRLS' PHYSICAL EDUCAIIOI Under the direction of Kiss Spiokernan, the girls had a gyn progrna combining various physical fitness activities, rhythm glues, and team sports Fall brought with it not only football for the boys, but soccer for the girls Hear those shins barking? lhsn cold weather made it necessary to bring bare legs under cover vol leyball became the game of the season, and with cries of 'Side Out' Het were heard Basketball came into full swing about Christmas time, and the girls soon learned that 'You tcan't push' or that that's 'walk- with the ball This ing . season was cllmaxed by an: All-Star game between the two senior high classes,the third hom' class being the victor. Came a not too balmy spring, and with it, soft ball. With the sound of bat meeting ball, the girls physical education program ended for the year. BUYS' PHYSICAL EDUCATIOI' The p e program for boys was widely expanded in llarlette this year The program,in accordance with Federal goverment wishes, was opened to all boys from grades seven through twelve Approxinately 125 boys participated in the program, not including those out for major sports Another step that was taken to further advance and strengthen the program was to al low a half' credit per year to all boys taking the course. It is possible for a boy to earn one credit toward graduation in physical edu cation by taking the course for two years addition, the two year course was made ocsapul sory for all boys in high school The opening of the p e progran to a ludh wider group of boys was a forward step in edu cation in larletts P e 1sn't just a wartime leed although there can be no doubt as to its value as a process in training the war youth It is also a peacetine lsasure If we plan to have a strong postwar generation to uphold the standards for which we have fought, two hjcr conflicts, we must train thu for their phys ical well being, as well as for their nental and spiritual Q e e In it Of
