Each symbol on the Marlborough seal represents an important event in the schooI's history. The pine tree represents the state of Maine where our founder, Mary S. Caswell, opened her first school. The California Grizzly bear denotes the fact that in 4888 Mrs. Caswell opened St. Margaret's School in Pasadena. The next year the Headmistress established a school at twenty-'third and Scarff Streets and the name was then changed to Marlborough. In the center of the seal is the fleur- de-Iis which was taken from the crest of the Duke of Marlborough. Symbolizing Marlborough's role as a messenger of learning, Mercury's caduceus runs vertically through the center of the seal. llll f' Q g0U6ll ra-Wfa i 1339 FACULTY 7 Z :fx my JI fX 5 PPER SCHOOL A HLETICS 4 x S 5 .E 1? 9 I CTIVITIES omzmnca sscfrioixl l owrara scHooL Y CL BS 6 ORGAN ENIO ATIONS '

The message to the students of Marlborough from all alumnae, faculty, staff, parents and friends of school is clear and unequivocal. This new building is an ex- pression of love, faith and confidence in them. Each brick, 'each room, each piece of equipment is a measure of our devotion to them, and to future gen- erations of students. You are the greatest, and you deserve the very best. Let the quality of your conduct here be an example so that all who come to this place will remember each of you for: Your awesome level of competition. Your self control, Your courage, and Your grace and dignity. You will leave knowing: That you were welcome.
