This new building is an ex- pression of love, faith and confidence in them. Each brick, 'each room, each piece of equipment is a measure of our devotion to them, and to future gen- erations of students. You are the greatest, and you deserve the very best. Let the quality of your conduct here be an example so that all who come to this place will remember each of you for: Your awesome level of competition. Your self control, Your courage, and Your grace and dignity. You will leave knowing: That you were welcome. That you made friends while here, and That you were consummate sportswomen in victory and defeat. 2 Opening Each symbol on the Marlborough seal represents an important event in the schooI's history. The pine tree represents the state of Maine where our founder, Mary S. Caswell, opened her first school. The California Grizzly bear denotes the fact that in 4888 Mrs. Caswell opened St. Margaret's School in Pasadena. The next year the Headmistress established a school at twenty-'third and Scarff Streets and the name was then changed to Marlborough. In the center of the seal is the fleur- de-Iis which was taken from the crest of the Duke of Marlborough. Symbolizing Marlborough's role as a messenger of learning, Mercury's caduceus runs vertically through the center of the seal. llll f' Q g0U6ll ra-Wfa i 1339 FACULTY 7 Z :fx my JI fX 5 PPER SCHOOL A HLETICS 4 x S 5 .E 1? 9 I CTIVITIES omzmnca sscfrioixl l owrara scHooL Y CL BS 6 ORGAN ENIO ATIONS ' A opening .....,.-.. .....y.-., , ...-....-..........,... - ' - J-2'1 ii ill LE Q li QUWQZE-.,-,5,,Cli L? The car was a beautiful Volkswagon Rabbit. A new addition to this year's Merry Mart was the Student Booth where only students could buy articles such as satin clouds, wicker pin cushions, and carrot jump ropes. All were sold for less then 35.00. Hot dogs, soups, fruit and popcorn were available to sustain both students and patrons who were able to complete their Christmas shopping at the handcraft and bakery booths. The Wassail party was held on Sunday in the new gym. Teachers, students and families, and alumni were present at the occasion. Delicious dishes were available on the plentiful buffet tables. Everyone danced the evening away to a band that played festive Christmas carols. Mr. Chumbook drew the lucky raffle ticket which was won, for the first time, by junior Cindy Boyd. All in all, Merry Mart was a huge success as a fundraiser and exciting Christmas event. Counterclockwlse from top left: T. McMenamin, C. Barnes: M. An- tonni, M. Milliken. V. Eastus. A. Jones. K. They have not only been friends. but also an integral part of my education. Some of these people left Marlborough earlier: others remain far away in other places and other countries. Many are present students at Marlborough. These special friends include several exceptional teachers who have opened my eyes to many things. Muchisimas gracias y un abrazo grande. My family have also been teachers, with their care and support. To all my friends: Thank you for all the great times and just being you! I bid you Godspeed, and best wishes. I love you. Everything has its beauty but not everybody sees it. -Confucius oz? When I was a toddler, I walked to the beach and found all of my dreams in the infinite number of sand grains. Greedily, I gathered as many as I could hold and stuffed several handfuls into my pockets until the sand brimmed over from my trousers. As I trudged home, very encumbered by the weighty load, I noticed a figure down the coast a little ways. Strange as it seemed, the form looked like a giant heart pumping and pumping its way toward me, and as it drew near I saw that it was indeed just that. lt had a few scars, but all the same it was a very healthy heart. It asked very politely if it might help me carry my obvious load, but I explained that I didn't need any help. This abundance of sand I will soon construct into a palace, it will be my utopia, I told it. Although there was something extremely familiar about the heart that made me want to talk with it longer, I hurriedly said goodbye, as I was pressed for time. Not too much later, I encountered two other rare figures, the kind you are very unlikely to meet up with. One was simply a bright star, smiling, with a deep concern in its eyes, and the other was a giant blue whale embeached on the sand, They too offered their help in carrying the precious cargo but, as with the heart, I told them that I could manage. Looking down at my pockets to assure myself it was still there, I was horrified to discover that more than half of the grains had slipped out through an apparent hole in the fabric. Then the whale, with a great sympathy, said, You know, that's very slippery sand you're holding. However, some of the grains are durable while others are weak and insignificant. Hours later, the sun having long since set, I decided to run the remaining distance home. Finally, gasping for breath, I arrived safely home. As I ascended the stairs, suddenly I remembered the sand. At my sides I felt empty pockets and hands and sadly concluded that my palace would never be realized, In an instant, I thought of what the whale had said of the grains - how some were weak, but others were strong. Undoubtedly the few that now stuck to my pockets were the durable ones that would build, at the least, a base for my palace. These were the vital ones, the ones that would make building the palace worthwhile, Next day, when I went back to the beach to collect sand for other parts of my creation, I found the heart, the star, and the whale all waiting for me. After they offered to help construct the base of my utopia, I gratefully accepted: so right there on the beach we began its plans. Today, twelve years later, l'm still working hard on this home, but I feel that when it's done, living there will be worth all of the effort. wg ,KN To The celebrating closs of '82: CHEERS Lf yo fha czwqf QYZ-' 272612 you afways ffanfffiffffkf iOLJ6L'f 2FLe .Wlqkc eafzhyzad, licclc mes, Keep thx glad sonj evzr 'Ln youfficafti gf ??'lU5f 77.03 jo oufb n EIIZODGTIT Hurt Senior Class Secretary-Treasurer Z' 438 seniors Catherine Jayne THE SEARCH I went to find The pot of gold That's waiting where the rainbow ends.
