STARTING THE YEAR OFF RIGHT Marlboro High waited two years for it, and on September 26, 1987 we finally got it. - A FOOTBALL WIN!!! The vic¬ tory was against Shrewsbury and no one could believe it. But this rally was not just for the football players. It was intended to introduce all the new and old players of the fall teams. Anticipa¬ tion was in the air. The reason for this was that our football, soccer, volleyball, cross-country, and field-hockey teams were all fired up for a great season. The captains spoke to the school about their hopes and expectations. The band played, the people cheered, and every¬ one, including faculty enjoyed the pe¬ riod off. Our teams ' athletes have out¬ standing abilities and qualities. We have had successful seasons in previous years and our hopes are for all the teams to be the best in the state this year. Girls ' volleyball team is introduced at the rally by captain Kristine Josephson. The Girls soccer team shows a little spirit with a rally dance. VICTORY

' 88 Homecoming - made to order Spirit events led up to the long awaited Homecoming Rally for the Class of 1988 during the week of Oc¬ tober 19. Monday, a real “low risk day, was concert T-shirt, Hat and Shades Day. Tuesday was Twin Day, Wednesday was Safari Day and Thursday was the zaniest day with everyone wearing two different shoes. On Friday, in preparation for our game Saturday with Algonquin, we wore black and orange. The real Homecoming festivities were kicked off at an exhilarating ral¬ ly emceed by Mr. Rigney. He got everyone to participate in an ice¬ breaker to judge the cheerleaders, the band and the skit. When he raised his right hand, we would yell “Aaaah! Raising his left hand would make us yell “Ooooh! We are PSYCHED!!! tough time against the Algonquin Tomahawks. Two punts by Junior Pete Long were blocked and ran in for two touchdowns, and that wasn ' t the end of Algonquin ' s scoring. They kept scoring until early in the fourth quarter. By that time the score was 33 - 0. Suddenly, with re¬ newed vigor, our Panther Eleven came back! Senior Mike Duffy ran in two touchdowns and Senior Mike Wing caught a pass from Senior quarterback Marc Buchan for our third touchdown. Unfortunately, that wasn ' t enough. We lost again, bringing our record to 2-3-1. By evening everyone was back in a good mood at the Toga Dance. Ev¬ eryone seemed in high spirits, with the Juniors dominating the coveted dancing spot - the landing between the first and second floor. Just before the big announcement, fourteen seniors, with their hair slicked and wearing shades, danced to the song “We Go Together from the movie “Grease. Finally, the mo¬ ment we had been anxiously await¬ ing arrived - the Homecoming Queen and King and their Court and Escorts were announced. Making up the Court were Karolyn Nelson and Steven Bilancieri, Marisa “Mooey Giorgi and Chad Asplund, Lauren Searle and Pat Ward and Julie Dzigas and Ernie Smither. Elected as Home¬ coming Queen and King were Jen Ott and Ed Ross. Queen Jen said, “I was surprised and thrilled. It is defi¬ nitely one of the happiest times of my high school years! Karolyn Nel¬ son was also surprised. “I couldn ' t believe it. After they called my name, my legs were shaking. King Ed was jubilant. “When my name was called, I couldn ' t believe it. It was definitely one of the best times of my life! Taking a breather at the Toga Dance for Homecoming, Ted Shaw and Senior Tony Trodella show off their Roman garb. During the Homecoming game, Senior Quar¬ terback Marc Buchan is sacked by an Algon¬ quin player. It was perfect football weather on Saturday. The MHS squad had a SPIRIT WEEK
