Marlborough was set aside as a six square mile plantation in 1656, from what was then Sudbury, which was first settled by the peo¬ ple of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The plantation was incor¬ porated as a separate town in 1660, and was named Marlborough after a town in Wilts County, England. Marlborough, whose area is 22 square miles, became a city in 1890. Some years ago the Rail¬ roads and Federal Post Office changed the legal name of the city to a contraction— Marlboro—for brevity and it is accepted except for legal papers. Marlboro was built on seven hills and is often called “The High¬ land City.” Thus, the Class of 1969 presents to you our yearbook— Winds From the Highlands. MARLBOROm PUSi G LIBRARY MASS.
