CLASS PROPHECY by Lena Baldera As I left the house, I turned the collar of my coat up, and started walking briskly along the country road I soon left the main road and walked along a footpath into the woods In a moment I came to a small wooden bridge spanning a picturesque stream surrounded by ancient trees Starting across the bridge, my eyes fell upon an odd looking object lying on the ground To satisfy my curiosity I stopped and picked it up It appeared to be a camera, yet it was not What could it be? I turned it over carefully several times, and as I did so a small booklet fell from lt I was filled with suspense as I began to read the booklet It was entitled NThe Futroscooen I turned to the first page The information it revealed was so startling that for a moment I lost my breath The booklet said that the object I was now holding in my hands had the power to allow one to peer into the future of that person The directions read 'Specify the persons you wish to see, and set the dials to the date on which you wish to observe them ' UWell, here goes,n I said to myself as I switched the dials xg6g1sh to see the members of the class of 1950 as they will be in I peered into the machine, and a scene came into view I was ln a huge theater An enthusiastic crowd was cheering that great first lady of the stage, Jody Nantz She and her leading man, Terry Ahearn have just enacted Eddie Rhodes' latest smash hit, 'Sink It Now or You'll Never Make It Lateru The critics, headed by Jessie Perletta were favorable in their acclaim The scene changed The editorial room of NThe Marlboro Daily Poop Sheet' flashed into view Reporter Frances Campo rushed to the editor' desk where Joe Vanacore, his feet on the desk, was lazily dictating to Serafina Porco nHarr1ett Postel, the famous pianist, has just received a tremendous ovation at Carnegie Hall breathed Frances Stupendous shouts Joe, 'Give the story to Marlene Rich to run off As I was saying, Miss Porco, please send a memo to DeWitt Quick and Carmine Grasso, drafting artists, as a reminder to see that advertising layout man, Bud Collins Once again the scene shifted I saw Madison Square Garden A huge crowd was wildly cheering uS1nk 1t'U yelled voices from the mezzanine nSet' Shoot screamed fans from their seats Joe Lofaro that great basketball ace, scored another goal for the Knlckerbockers, breaking his own record of lO6 points for one game What's this? Where did all those cows come from? Oh, they must be some of Louise and Pierre Ferguson's blue ribbon prize winning 'Cows of Tomorrown Along the fence of the Ferguson farm Frank Schiavone and his defoted wife Theresa can be seen feeding their chickens, and hoping they too might some day be awarded a ribbon for the nCh1ckens of Tomorrowu As these prosperous farmers continue with their chores Jeanette Affuso, the faithful wife of Louie Quick, comes rushing down the road, weeping and walling because her hubby hasn't written to her from China in five days Again the scene is eclipsed and finally reveals a large modern car display window Through the pane we can see Jack Clarke, prominent Farm Bureau president, speaking to the salesman 'Yes,' says playboy Clarke, nI'll take this Cadillac On second thought, I'll take two One does get tired of the same color, you know o u ' 0 n 4 - 0 Q A I Q s A 1 0 o , .
