ALMA MATER Come, give your praise to Marlboro High Through the pleasant years of High School With hearts so light and free, 'Midst the friends that are so dear, For she is your Alma Mater May we always learn to cherish Whose honor shelters thee. The precepts that we hear. We wlll guard her standards ever And although our minds do wander And in duty never lackg In many a different track, We will always stand defenders And we'll always stand defenders Of the Orange and the Black. Of the Orange and the Black. CHORUS To the flower that wears our colors All honor shall we pay And the sturdy Black-Eyed Susan We never shall betray. 1 UUH PHIHCIPHL CONGRATULATIONS to the senior class of nineteen-hundred forty-nine on a job well done! wards of living. Books and lectures are only a small part of your education. Getting along with your fellow men, meeting all situations with a smile, giving a helping hand, being trustworthy, loyal, klnd, and generous are character traits which I hope you will carry with or you throughout the future years. Unless your education has taught you these traits, especially the ability to get along with people and to enjoy your work, you will not be happy no matter how much book learning you have. The experience you have had in compiling this yearbook, the first in the history of Marlborough Central School, exemplifies individual initiative and co-operative endeavor which should be of ines- timable value to you in life. Satisfaction in successful accomplishment is the greatest incentive toward future and better ac- complishments. A' As you assume your respective responsibilities in your community, continue to observe the American principles that you have studied, learned and practiced during your high school years. May success and happiness accompany each and every pupil in the class of '49 in all his under- takingsl VPJ BUHHD UF EDUCHTIUH joseph Dall Vechia C. Along with this undertaking she has coached the Senior Play, Free Advice. She has also supervised the Holiday Hop, a Christmas Dance given by the Seniors, December 27th. We, as Seniors, think that she deserves a well-earned thanks for her guidance and leadership. 7 -'G-and 162068040 sfnmn ufrlcfns Standing: A. Porco, President Seated: A. Wilklow, Vice-President, M. Vanacore, Secretary, D. Purdy, Treasurer CLASS HISTORY FROM Marlboro, Milton, and of course Lattintown, we came as bewildered 7th graders to the second story of Marlboro Central High to begin our illustrious career. By the end of the first year, we had sev- eral members in the band and orchestra, a few on Re-Echo staff and numerous up-and-coming athletes. As 8th graders, we gave our first social--a big success. Some of our members displayed their dramatic ability in the one act play-- Of All Things. Feeling very proud of ourselves, we became Freshmen the following fall and started a gay year with Mr. George Pearson as class advisor. The class officers were: President, Iohn Nickling Vice-President Marion Schlosserg Secretary, Helena Swartz, Treasurer, Dewitt Quick. As Freshmen we gave two suc- cessful socials. As Sophomores we were more experienced with the affairs of our class. For this year the following persons held office: President, Marion Schlosserg Vice-President, Lil Strong, Secretary, Evelyn Budel- mang Treasurer, Louis Camuglia. The two Student Council representatives of our class were Anthony Pagano and Thelma Rahm with Patty Dall Vechia as alternate. Boots gave a wonderful Halloween party for the class that fall. During this year the Sophomore English class presented a one act play en- titled the Pest Guest by Jay Tobias under the direction of Mrs. Daniel Martuscello. On May 9th the Sophomores gave a social called the Pre-Summer Fizz. When the junior class held their first class meeting the following officers were chosen for that year: President, Marion Schlosserg Vice-President, Anthony Porco, Secretary, Albert Amodeog Treasurer, Charles Weed. The two representatives were Louis Camuglia and Peter Conte. Louis's alternate was Patty Dall Vechia and Peter's alternate was Anthony Pagano. On November 10th we gave a social called The Freedom Train. In March, we chose our class 'rings and waited anxiously for their arrival. On May lst one of the most colorful events of the season was given with the aid of Miss Helen Sullivan, our class advisor. Of course,' you all lmow what this great event was? ? ? Why yes, it was the Junior Prom, The Southern Soiree ln The gym was cleverly decorated to create an outdoor effect. All those who attended said that it was one of the best proms ever to be given. Also as Juniors we took over the Re- Echo while the Senior class of 1948 was putting on their play. 8 UEHHBUUH STHFF Seated: M. Zimmerman, Assistant Editorg F. Dawes, Editor-in-chief, Miss R. Art Editor THANKS ' THE Senior Class of 1949 wishes to express sincere gratitude to Mr. Alvut and the members of the Board of Education for encouraging publication of the yearbook, to Mr. 1. Dall Vechla of the Board of Education for taking an active interest in raising funds for the yearbook, to Mr. Cordler and Sam Scllla for offering photographic services to the yearbook. We also wish to acknowledge all our patrons, and wish to thank all those who participated in any way to make this publication a success. The Senior Class of 1949 CLASS HISTORY Continued WELL, we have finally reached the goal as Seniors. Our class advisor for this year is Miss Ruth Colvin. The following are the class officers for the year of 1948-1949: President, Anthony Porcog Vice-President, Addison Wllklowg Secretary, Peggy Vanacoreg Treasurer, Dart Purdy. Our two Student Council representatives are Albert Amodeo and John O'Neil. The two alternates are Florence Dawes and Lil Strong. Since this is the last of year of school it is the busiest for all of us. On De- cember the 27th the Senior class with the generous aid of Mr. Joseph Dall Vechia held a dance en- titled The Holiday Hop. Music was furnished by Ward Harrison and his orchestra and the profits went toward The Torch. During our Senior year we have helped supervise the publication of the Re-Echo, our school newspaper. On April 8th there was great excitement in the gym of Marlboro High School I Yes, you guessed it, it was the night of the Senior play, Free Advice, a three act comedy. When the curtains closed there was a great ring of applause, which surely indicated that the play was a great success. Then came graduation and many faces wet with tears. So we have completed four years of fun and hard work at M. C. H. AT their first meeting in September, the Ixmior Class elected the following officers: Nancy Dalby, President, Joy Ferguson, Vice-President, Serafina Porco, Secretary, Frances Campo, Treasurer, jack Clarke and Harriet Postel, Student Council Representatives. At a later date they selected a committee of five to look over rings from six different companies. Finally these were narrowed down to one ring sample from each company. These samples were displayed before the entire Junior Class, who selected the Iosten ring. In early spring the Juniors showed off their rubies, spinels and other stones. Yu1etide Gaiety, a Christmas social, was a total success. The gym was decorated to represent a toy shop window at Christmas. Later in Ianuary, the annual Prom date was set for May 14, 1949. Dom Cavalieri and his orchestra was chosen from a group of five orchestras. The gym was gaily decorated to represent night-life in New York. This was another success added to their credit. At the end of the semester, the Juniors were in charge of the class day program which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. They sent the seniors off with a farewell that will be remembered by everyone. Their last tribute to the Senior Class was the roses and lilacs adorning the stage for Baccalaureate Service and Commencement Exercises. The cooperation of the Junior Class helped to make the year a profitable and successful one. 14 N M' 1st Row: 2nd Row: : S. Weed, D. Dirago, R. Filiberti, A. Dina, T. Corrado, M.
