SeI110l'S fO1' GI1 eVeI111'lg Sept 4 1946 found twenty mne members begm nmg therr last year at good old M H S Those elect ed to serve us as offlcers for the year were Tom M1chel Presldent B111 Bloss Vrce Presxdent Glenn Grlcrest Secretary and Mary Sue Austm Treasur er Once aga1n we had a new and very capable sponsor Mr Maurer who gulded us over the rough spots of our Senror year Senlors who were members of the hrgh school play cast were Barbara Vaughan Mary Sue Austm and Bob Freshley Immedlately followlng the productron of the hrgh school play 1n October we began workmg to perfect our own Senror class play One of the most enjoyable parts of producrng a play for the member of the cast and stage hands was the fact that qulte often we skrpped classes to work on the play Nov 22 and 23 were set as the dates for the play and on these dates the mystery comedy The Case of the Mlssmg Helrs became the center of attractron Our productron turned out to be a huge success largely due to the efforts of Mr Maurer and hrs wrfe under whose gurdance we performed The Senrors traveled to Trger Stad1um rn Massrl lon for therr f1rst party rn the year at whrch trme we wltnessed the Massrllon Toledo Warte gam Nat urally smce we cheered for Masslllon Toledo Wa1te walked off wrth the vrctory 1946 also wrtnessed the commg of Marlboro s f1rst football team rn ftve years Srx husky Senrors namely Tom Mrchel B111 Bloss lack Wearstler M11 lard Shrerner Melvm Qurllen and Marvrn Mouhn partlcrpated ln football thrs season Four members of the Senxor Class played on the varslty basketball team They are as follows Mel Thrs year we were entertamed by the Iumors at Allrance Country Club on May 3 We had a very good trme and we want to thank the Iumors very much The clostng events were Baccalaureate on May 25th and our hnal steps on May 27th whlch IS when we graduated It IS wlth a feehng of regret of leav1ng the days that have gone by and a feelmg of hope and pray ers for the future w1th whlch we the class of 47 say our last farewell to Marlboro Hrgh School . 62'-. ll! cam 1111111111 111 47 On Sept 7 1943 our class began 1ts Freshman Year at M H S w1th an enrollment of forty seven members We were under the able gurdance of M1ss Emery cmd on Sept 13 the class elected 115 of f1cers as follows Pres1dent Glenn Grlcrest V1ce Pres1dent Ioe Gnmm Secretary Raymond Haldet and Treasurer Melvm Qurllen The new members who blessed the class wrth therr presence were Raymond Haldet Theresa Frank Tommy M1Chel and Mary Agnes Ruffler We elected Ethel Vaughan to be our cheerleader and to represent our class at the ball games for the rest of our h1gh school years On October 15 that day dreaded by all green Fresh1es arnved and we were 1n1t1ated 1nto H1gh School by the supenor Sophomores The gzrls were compelled to wear Indlan blankets moccas1ns green nbbons and corn necklaces wh11e the boys were gally bedecked in burlap sacks w1th thetr feet pa1nted red Our f1fSl class party was a sled ndlng party held on February 16 Result Lesl1e Wade broke h1s leg but regardless of th1s m1shap we all enjoyed the evenmg very much In th1s our f1rst year we were represented on the scholarsh1p team by seven members The school year ended on May 26th at whrch t1me we all glad ly sa1d Good bye to M H S for the summer months At the beg1nn1ng of our Sophomore year roll call was answered by 1l'11I'lYf1V6 members M1ss Emery agam sponsored our class for the last year that she spent here We orgamzed by elect1ng the follow mg offrcers Pres1dent Glenn Gllcrest V1ce Prest dent Mtllard Shremer Secretary Helen Summers and Treasurer La Vera Green We appropnately chose Fnday October 13 t 1mt1ate the Freshmen and took great pleasure 1n seemg the g1rls 1n thelr long underwear and the boys adorned rn women s n1ght1es The Freshmen were remmded of the1r lovely pos1t1ons by be1ng forced to bow and repeat the words Oh mlghty Sopho- mor I am but a humble worm Three members of our class represented us at the L1terary Contest and flve members part1c1pated m the scholarsh1p examlnatlons One member of the class Melvm Qurllen be came outstandmg 111 the athletlc freld by becoming a member of the varslty basketball team At the close of the tenn 1n May we were all happy to realrze that we had completed another year of school and would not have to return untrl the follow mg September Sept 4 1945 marked the openmg of our Iumor year wh1ch was to be a very busy one We were no longer sponsored by M1ss Emery but had a new sponsor Mrs Matthews After Mrs Matthews left at the mlddle of the year Mr Barry took over the pos1t1on of our sponsor We were also gurded by Mr Maurer our home room teacher Offlcers elected at the beg1nn1ng of the year are as follows Pres1dent Mrllard Shrelner V1ce Presx dent Glenn Gllcrest Secretary Norma Lare and Treasurer Helen Summers Durmg the year we sold candy at the noon hour and hot dogs and potato chrps at the home games We also sold occas1onal cards and boxed candy for Easter Partles wh1ch we held dunng the year were a Thanksgrvrng dance wh1ch we sponsored 1n the audltonum and open to the whole h1gh s hool We also had an md1v1dual class theater party 1n Canton We were qu1te well represented on the basketball team by Melvm Qu11len Mlllard Shrerner B111 Bloss and I1m Vaughan SIX members of the class became stars wher the h1gh school play was presented and all played the1r roles l1ke expenenced actors These were namely Mary Sue Austm Norma Lare Melvm Qtullen Theresa Frank Ethel Vaughan and Betty Fausnrght Several members of the class gamed acknowled gement 1n the mus1cal llterary held namely De11la Machamer Barbara Vaughan Ethel Vaughan and Norma Lare department of llterary were La Vera Green and Norma Lare Those part1c1pat1ng rn the scholarsh1p exams were Wrllard Upl1nger Mary Su Austm Nonna Lare Helen Summers and Glenn Gllcrest Those who took part rn the speakmg Durmg the early part of Ianuary we bnghtened the atmosphere by weanng our newly arnved class nngs and flashy orange and black jackets May twenty fourth found us once aga1n saymg adleus to our classmates for the duratlon of the sum mer vacat1on The crown1ng event of our Iunxor year prom was held on May 2 rn the Shady Hollow Country Club At th1s t1me we had the pleasure of entertalnrng the 0 , - 1 1 I I I . . - Q - ' I 1 1 1 1 ' I ' - 1 , . . .
