'E X -' ' x X u 47 Ciafofs gfwtafng On September 8 1941 38 new Freshmen meekly entered 1nto the adventures of h1gh school under the guidance of Miss Galla er We were put through the m1ll by the sophomores in 1n1t1at1on whlch occured on October 3 We girls were told to wear bur lap sacks green sashes on1ons in our hair and men s h1p boots The boys had to wear girls palamas rlbbons rn their hair and girls slippers Later election of officers took place 1n which the following members were elected President Gordon Knlsely V1ce President Bill Zvirblis Secretary Leo Ha1det and Treasurer Mary Sm1th Twyla Wood was elected cheerleader Our f1rst get together was on February l 1942 when we saw the show How Green Was My Valley at the Momson theater in Alllance A school bus took us and brought us home A great t1me was enjoyed by all of us During our freshman year a spell1ng con test was held throughout the dlfferent schools and two of our members namely Manlyn Snyder and B111 Zvirblis part1c1pated We and on account of their good spelling Marlboro won The first year ended with a class picnic at Summit Beach in Akron We all were very tired when the day was over Coming forth w1th a more sure foot we strided bnskly into our second year There were 37 members when we started but eleven were lost namely Wayne Brower Clarence Drayer Richard Poteet Ioyce Fell er Roy Karlen Robert Carlson Mane Mc Caffery Ol1n Neeley Helen Ohman Iumor Miller and Arthur Ringer During the year three new members lean Reaser Melvina Cox and Donna Lare came makmg a total of 29 This year the class officers were Gordon Knisely president Leo Ha1det vice presi dent Mary Smith secretary and Beverly Wearstler treasurer On October 16 we had the honor of ini tiatxng the freshmen and what I mean the freshres were really sorry when it was all over We made the gxrls wear long under wear and the boys had to wear diapers More fun ' ' Gee where d1d all those pretty gold rings come from? Yes we received our class rings on March 15 and we were very proud of them The class put on a program for the rest of the school in which the play The Tan trum was presented Another year was ended and most of the class members spent the last day at Sum mit Beach A gold compact was given to our sponsor Miss Gallaher who entered the Waves at the end of our sophomore year We thought that we knew qulte a lot about high school as 29 of us entered our third year We garned two new members when Olga DAmbros1a and Ioanne Seifert came makmg a total of 31 Mr Strauss was given the great task of sponsormg our class Again the duty of electing offlcers came about They were Gordon Kn1 ely presi dent Tom Chenevey vice president Mary Smith secretary and Marilyn Snyder treas urer Throughout the year our home room was occupred by other class members who want ed candy 1ce cream bars etc Our greatest event of the year was on May 10 when we had Prom at Highland Golf L1nks for the seniors Im sure a good time was enloyed by all Anyway we hope because of the gas shortage so the class members went to different places Our last year and the close of a perfect school career was soon at an end for 25 seniors Between our junior and senior years we lost Glen Bergert Olga DAmbros1a Ioanne Seifert Lawrence Brelt Melvlna Cox and Charlotte Roath On October 24 Tom Chenevey left for the Army leavtng only 24 of us MISS Young was given the duty of helping us through the closing events and the Offl cers were as follows Leo Ha1det president Gordon Knrsely vice president Twyla Wood secretary and Beverly Wearstler treasurer The class play was presented on Novem ber 137 The name of it was Let Me Out of Here We had a very large crowd and we hope that they all enyoyed seeing it as much at we d1d presenting it Thxs year we were entertained by the jun lors at Congress Lake on May 2 We all had a very good time and we want to thank the juniors very much The closing events were Baccalaureate on May 20 and Commencement on May 24 when we said good bye to our school friends and M H S Twyla Wood I h . - . . . : I . : - . .
