J s . - - 7 1 I - - 5 .. is : U :I ' : Cl b - - I: I a 4: Of- 5 ' ' - 1 U - I ' C. - -.- 5 l ' ' 1 v ' . g . ly n l - - - I 1 ' .. lf ' 'N I ' A 1 Y lg ' .c sht 7 cam gamut, A Rendezvous Wnth Tlme In the fall of 1940 the Senior Class of 1944 entered Marlboro High School as 53 bewildered green Freshres With the aid of the upper classmen we soon found our way around Mr Boyle was given the task of sponsonng our class One of our first duties was to elect offxcers They were as follows President Ray Sluss Vice President Don Bowman Secretary Mary Devies and Treas urer Richard Michel We also elected Rita Frank as our cheerleader In a few weeks the Sophomores decided to take some of the greenness out of us by 1n1t1at1on The boys had to wear ladies dresses silk hose and ladies slippers The girls wore men s overalls shirts and rubber boots The even mg was enjoyed by everyone even the Iunior Class The school year was ended by a picnic at Idora Park in Youngstown The following fall we started our Second year with 42 members Mr Hazen a newcomer to the Faculty was given the task of sponsoring our class up un til the time he decided to enter the C1v1l Service We organized by electing the following officers President Norbert Michel Vice President Don Bowman Secretary Rita Frank and Treasurer Ray Sluss On October 13 1941 we decided we would take the greenness out of the freshies by having initiation We also sponsored an all High School Roller Skating Party at Land O Dance This big event took place on Friday March 6 1941 April 9 was a sorrowful day for us Sophomores Mr Hazen our class sponsor left the school to take a C1V1l Service yob in Alliance so Mr Lasse took over the Job as our sponsor There were eight of our Sophomores on the Scholarship team and five on the basketball team 1n Akron At the beginning of our Iunior year we elected President Don Bowman Vice President George Berlin Secretary Dorothy Moore and Treasurer Norbert Michel After losing nine members of our class the enrollment was 33 As the usual custom we took charge of selling candy and ice cream On September 18 we received our class rings and on November 25 our class jackets Finally our biggest and most exciting event took place Our prom was held on May 12 at Elk s Lodge in Alliance Im quite certain everybody enloyed the evening Again we were well represented in sports Five in Basketball and five in Baseball A picnic at Summit Beach Park in Akron brought the school year to a close On September 7 1943 we the 26 members started for our last round up We again had a new sponsor Mrs Hoppes to supervise our class Upon entenng for the last time we elected the following officers to lead us in the Seruor events President Norbert Michel Vice President Ray Sluss Secretary Rita Frank and Treasurer Don Bowman This year we Seniors sponsored a play on December 10 1943 The t1tle was Act Your Age As usual we were well represented in all activities We are also proud to remind you that dunng the year our boys and girls were champs in the intra mural Basketball toumament We Seniors are proud to have Mary Grace Wertenberger as Ed1tor1nCh1ef of the Scenario which the Senior Class published this year The Iunior Senior Prom was held on May 10 1944 at Elk s Lodge in Alliance The remaining events which draw our four years of high school life to a chmax are Baccalaureate May 21 and last but our most important was when 23 Seniors appeared in caps and gowns on May 25 for graduation U I . . I 'lah' Rah' Rah! We are happy to say that this year the Cheer- leaders of Marlboro High School were awarded the cheerleaders trophy for being the most outstand- ing in the Stark County tournament. The trophy, awarded by lVlr. Kohr, was based on appearance and ability. Attired in their orange and black outfits, they have been present at every game of the Marlboro athletic schedule, to lead our cheering section. They have contributed much to our school spirit and have added several new yells, which have met with the approval of all. The Cheerleaders were in charge of each pep rally, which was held before the games, and gave the boys the pep to reach a success. This year the Freshman clas nominated Ethel Vaughn to epresent them in the cheering section The other classes retained the same cheerleaders as last year namely Rita Frank Senior Twyla Wood Iunior and Eileen Wise Sophomore CHEERLEADERS ' s ' . 4 1' I - ' ' .
