. . . As time drew near for Christmas activities, M.H.S. grew increasingly busier. The yearbook held a picture auction of old photos on December 16th. The next day, school was dis- missed at 11:40 so teachers could pre- pare for state evaluation. The Student Council sponsored a semi-formal Christmas Dance on December 19th. With two days left before the Christ- mas vacation, M.H.S. was buzzing with excitement. The Music Department presented two consecutive programs of their Holiday Concert to the students. It included the Girls' Glee Club, the Choir, and the Band. Marlboro High was even busy during the vacation. A Christmas basketball tournament was held in our gym on December 29th and '3Oth. The teams were the three from the F.R.H.S. dis- trict, and the Rumson Fair-Haven Bulldogs. The first night saw Freehold playing Howell followed by Marlboro vs. Rumson. The consolers and champs played off the next night. Speaking of sports, I have to brag about our great wrestlers and gym- nasts. They all scored well, showing 13-0 and respectively for the year. The Mustang basketball, baseball, and ten- nis players all put up a great show in their games, too. There was an Ugly Man Contest during the week of January 26-30. Votes cost a penny each, and receipts went to the voter's favorite club. The Student Council arranged for a former drug addict to speak to anyone interested at a meeting after school January 26. 4. 1

I 2 5 . . . February began with a school-wide search for talent. That is, the Student Council Variety Show and D.A.Cfs tryouts for Little Mary Sunshine really competed with each other for the best performers. One thing our school has got going for it is indivi- dual achievement. Mr. Berlin made it a point to bring it to the attention of the student body Whenever some- one excelled or received an award for accomplishment. Everybody did their own thing, whether it was art, music, sports, or other fields. Student involvement might well have been the theme this year. Just listening to the Mustang Daily Signals is proof of that. P In mid-February, the underclassmen were asked to register for their next year's courses. At the same time a Senior Class meeting was held. Thoughts of gradua- tion were already creeping up. Before the end-of-the-year pressures began to blow everyone's mind, we had a mid-winter vacation, i.e., a week off from school. In an effort to help students who might have been involved in drug abuse, the Student Council arranged for a three-period assembly in which to present views and questions to several local authorities, some of which were former addicts. Following this program the opportunity for individual rap sessions were also set up. Candy was sold by all four classes, and by several clubs and organizations. It is for this reason, perhaps, that everyone seemed to be broke when it came time to pay their dues . . .
