A vivid impression of that day was seeing so many buses overloaded with anxious riders who spilled onto the sidewalks and through the double doors. For the old-timers, there were reunions and spontaneous reminisc- ing. But for the newcomers, it must have been sheer chaos. Not long afterward, Mr. Frostick guided everyone to their homerooms for the silent 7:35 bell. Homeroom teachers exercised great skill in clearing the hall congestion, running through the rosters, and dealing with bodiless names. Then students sat in their homerooms for forty minutes registering until Activity Bell Schedule -1-il released them for the day. That was September 4th . . . The gymnasium was soon rocking with jumping jacks and ricocheting volley balls. I was assured of a healthy student body by the end of the month. Those who didn't get TB shots were tested when physical fitness showed them what sum- mer had done to their lazy bodies. The guidance counselors finally placed 170 new stu- dents in classes and began working on schedule changes. Several classes were dissolved to redistribute an unusually small or large class. On September 26, we held our first pep rally on our own grid iron. It was great to see the cheerleaders, majorettes, color guard, flag twirlers, drill team, band, and all the players in position. That evening the Stu- dent Council sponsored a Kickoff Dance. The school spirit at the rally was matched at the game of the sea- son, played against Keyport High, because our guys Won, 30-8! October was also a month of activities. During the first week, was a boycott of cafeteria food. The Fresh- men held their class officers campaign . . . 5 . . . The Senior Class dance, Bare Wallsn, was held. The '69 Roundupv arrived and was distributed. Delta Alpha Gamma held play try-outs for The World of Sholom Aleichem . There was another pep rally, and at this one everyone participating was in his full dress uniform. The class rings arrived, and orders were taken for school jackets. On the twenty-first, Cong. James J. Howard spoke to the student body on the pending is- sues for the upcoming election. Cafe Reflections happened again, this time in the cafeteria, and With the added attractions of dancing, a vocalist, and more groups. On the 25th the PSAT was given at MHS. Senior portraits were taken at the end of the month. November began well. The dress code was presented, the prime feature being that girls could Wear slacks during the cold months. After a short vacation for the teachers' convention, annual Festival Week began. The drill team lost to the soccer team in a mock game after school, and at the same time a large crowd drew to the Senior slave auction. Would you believe Pat Smith went for Fourteen dollars? Wednesday of Festival Week was Slave Day. The slaves were almost totally at the mercy of their owners. On class Distinc- tion Day, Thursday, class members dressed to distin- guish themselves: Freshmen wore mismatched clothes, the Sophs wore white socks and sneakers, Juniors were wearing balloons, and Seniors were in bowties. An added attraction to the day were the Big Mouth buttons sold by the Juniors, aimed at gabby girls in the halls. Sheila Rager got 20, all from Mr. Rielly in U. S. I. The yearbook pictures of underclassmen were taken that day, too. Friday of Festival Week was traditionally Blue and Gold Day. But the real climax of the festivities was the last football game on Saturday . . . 3. 1, .W it B it E 4 . . . There was a pre-game parade through Marl- boro, and during half-time the judging of the class floats and crowning of Miss M.H.S. took place. Win- ners of these contests were the Senior Class and Glenna Langford, respectively. To top it off, the Mus- tangs tromped the Allentown Redbirds, 42-0. The Human Rights Club was one of the most active clubs this year. Its members sponsored a soul dinner and fashion show on November 19. On the following three days, Delta Alpha Gamma presented the One Acts of . . . Sholom Aleichemf' The Cheerleaders' Dance was November 21st. On the 25th, M.H.S. took over-all third place in the Speech Arts Festival. The Library Council held the first book fair for the school during the first week of December. Profits from book sales went towards the future purchase of a copy- ing machine. The Junior Class Dance, Meet Me in the Woods , was held on December 5. Unfortunately many stu- dents were uptight about S.A.T.'s the next day. Another Soul Dinner-Fashion Show was held on De- cember 10th. ,,..'.s N-. 1-.x1ni5i4L5'5Z'5iM4 1 3, -gg-,3 . . . As time drew near for Christmas activities, M.H.S. grew increasingly busier. The yearbook held a picture auction of old photos on December 16th. The next day, school was dis- missed at 11:40 so teachers could pre- pare for state evaluation. The Student Council sponsored a semi-formal Christmas Dance on December 19th. With two days left before the Christ- mas vacation, M.H.S. was buzzing with excitement. The Music Department presented two consecutive programs of their Holiday Concert to the students. It included the Girls' Glee Club, the Choir, and the Band. Marlboro High was even busy during the vacation. A Christmas basketball tournament was held in our gym on December 29th and '3Oth. The teams were the three from the F.R.H.S. dis- trict, and the Rumson Fair-Haven Bulldogs. The first night saw Freehold playing Howell followed by Marlboro vs. Rumson. The consolers and champs played off the next night. Speaking of sports, I have to brag about our great wrestlers and gym- nasts. They all scored well, showing 13-0 and respectively for the year. The Mustang basketball, baseball, and ten- nis players all put up a great show in their games, too. There was an Ugly Man Contest during the week of January 26-30. Votes cost a penny each, and receipts went to the voter's favorite club. The Student Council arranged for a former drug addict to speak to anyone interested at a meeting after school January 26. 4. 1 Y 11 I 2 5 . . . February began with a school-wide search for talent. That is, the Student Council Variety Show and D.A.Cfs tryouts for Little Mary Sunshine really competed with each other for the best performers. One thing our school has got going for it is indivi- dual achievement. Mr. Berlin made it a point to bring it to the attention of the student body Whenever some- one excelled or received an award for accomplishment. Everybody did their own thing, whether it was art, music, sports, or other fields. Student involvement might well have been the theme this year. Just listening to the Mustang Daily Signals is proof of that. P In mid-February, the underclassmen were asked to register for their next year's courses. At the same time a Senior Class meeting was held. Thoughts of gradua- tion were already creeping up. Before the end-of-the-year pressures began to blow everyone's mind, we had a mid-winter vacation, i.e., a week off from school. In an effort to help students who might have been involved in drug abuse, the Student Council arranged for a three-period assembly in which to present views and questions to several local authorities, some of which were former addicts. Following this program the opportunity for individual rap sessions were also set up. Candy was sold by all four classes, and by several clubs and organizations. It is for this reason, perhaps, that everyone seemed to be broke when it came time to pay their dues . . . ,HW ' , .f ,Q ww, ' :fiif fi iii is V,QQf , iQw.,1, ' ,I .B R L Hey! There's Marlboro! I , f 13 ,I . . . As you can see, the school hasn't changed much, even with a larger population. There are still places Where kids find privacy, unbeknownst to the study hall teachers. The building is as attractive as ever, and seems officially initiated now that the athletic fields have been fully utilized. It's difficult to remember a day when there Wasn't something to look forward to in the area of recreation. Unfortunately, spring fever began to set in just about the time the term papers had to be started, so many had a di- lemma to cope with then . . . Yes, it's all over now, but it is hoped that the experiences we've shared won't be forgotten. Doesn't everyone love to hear Remember when? The first graduating class of Marlboro High School - the Class of 1970 - has left its vestiges and traditions to be fol- lowed in future years. Many students receiyed scholar- ships and other awards, and the seniors were honored by the Junior Class and community notables at an awards assembly. At the end of the year, the coming of the Junior Prom and the Senior Ball initiated the stu- dent Cut-Day. To the graudates, the best of luck and success is wished. To those who will be back, may they enjoy their future so to remember it with the pleasure this yearis seniors do. I 23 K .ad 5: CULTY WWW Right: Dr. William R.
