We were loud, boisterous, and un- bearable at timesg yet our cause was g o o d -- school spirit. ROWDY Frequently, we es- c aped the gaiety of the crowd and found solace in the calmness of our minds. With a friend or perhaps alone, we were able to think more clearly and evaluate more precisely in an interlude of silence. 6 TENSE. RELAXED There is a strange sensation of fear which became familiar to each ofus. It became most common duringa crucial point of a game. We learned to act in a crisis. We took defeat with a stiff courage and victory with an open smile. When we relaxed, we were the very happ- iest people alive. We often exchanged the thoughts of an unpleas- ant previous hour for li v e ly conversation. We made friends and conquered the blues in these hours. CAREFREE . . 9111 Participation in e x t r a - x i -2 curricular activities brought our gayest mom- ents. We often rollicked tg, yy T and frisked, giving our i time and energy to the clubs we represented. They were an asset to . l,i W our growth--a vitamin. a,i,A vatvt PV its If we parts g o e s never Xl R Ei? have played our well, the credit to thos e who let us down. SERIOUS . Those three hallowed words reverently dictate what you want to be, what you can be, and what you will be . . . These are some of the things they build: They build you basic character, they teach you to be proud and unbending in honest failure, but humble and gentle in success, not to substitute words for action, not to seek the path of comfort, but to face the stress and spur of difficulty and chall- enge, to learn to stand up in the storm, but to have compassion on those who fail, to master yourself before you seek to master others, to have a heart that is clean, a goal that is high, to learn to laugh, yet never for- gethow to weep, to reach into the future, yet never neglect the past, to be serious, yet never take yourself too seriously, to be modest so that you will remember the sim- plicity of true greatness, the open mind of true wisdom, the meekness of true strength. They create in your heart the sense of won- der, the unfailing hope of what next, and the joy and inspiration of life. Your friend, Mah 2? WWA Mr. Smith Asst. Every HI TIMES meant hard work, delegation of authority and responsibility. My staff put their faith in me, and I enjoyed working with them. Lana Harlow, my assistant editor, was a constant help and dear companion. Each office practice student willingly helped to make our deadlines and newsy columns for our readers, striving to make each issue better than the last, yet holding to an individual format. Ifind that Iowe awealth of gratitude to aman who placed his faith in my ability--Mr. Forrest. Through himI learned so much, all the while aware of his kindness, guidance and consideration as we worked together. He gave me confidence. His sense of humor made me appreciate him all the more. Thank you, Mr. Forrest, for your assurance, which I will always remember. Good luck to the next HI TIMES editor. Try your best, for others will take notice. Your readers' compliments will bring you the satisfaction you endeavor to find in your year. Melanie Sandefur- - EDITOR -if - - it . ARAB IAN STAFF The honor of being the yearbook editor is an honor which increases as time passes. I could not imagine the time and work which must be spent planning the yearbook. The assets gained from working on the yearbook more than overshadow the problems and headaches. The pride felt upon seeing the final copy of the yearbook is a rare experience. Many of the problems and headaches were shared by my assistant, Dee Ann Stohler. The title of assistant-editor is rather ironical in her case. At times it seemed as if I were her assistant. Whenever I was unable to work on the yearbook, she took complete responsibility and did a fine job. Frequent1y,we had to be encouraged to keep from slowing down. This encouragement came largely from Mr. Forrest, our advisor. He gave us his time and knowledge whenever we were in need of it. He was an inspiration to all of us on the staff. Our financial matters were handled very efficiently by Kathy McCormack. She was respon- sible for the selling of ads and the handling of all checks and invoices. She took her responsibility seriously and always urged others to sell their ads. To all of these people go my deepest thanks and appreciation for a job well done. Many of their losses, however, were by one or two points. The team got off to a slow start winning two of their first three games and then dropping the next six. By mid-season the team started to improve and surprised everyone by winning the Pendleton Invitational Tourney. They began forming into a closely knit team and everyone's hopes brightened. The team slid downhill a little after the tourney and was never able to return to its peak. However, the team made a good impression in the Madison County Tourney. The season was average after that and was climaxed when the Arabians lost to the Elwood Panthers in the Sectional. The team loses two starters in Seniors Howard Williams and Butch Baker. Everyone is hoping for a bright season next year. KNEELING: Managers--Dan Noland, Bob Sparks, Von Smith, Jeff Stoops. STANDING: Mr. Keller--Asst. The boys showed a lot of enthusiasm for a sport they had never before competed in. All of the boys worked hard in practice and had alot of spirit in their meets. Although they did not have many meets, they were able to defeat Middletown and also to place second in the Charlottesville Invitational. You're very fortunate. In- quiring minds have a lot more tun than if-it-wasa good-enough-for-my-father-it's-good-enough-for- me-type minds. l Take a look at the young scien- tists at Delco-Remy's Research and Engineering Center in Anderson. They solve problems using everything from an electron microscope that can magnify the diameter ot a human hair to a width of 150 feet to an instrument that can cut an inch of material into a million parts. They work side by side with other scientists who are developing things like electronic ignition systems for cars and control devices for missiles and rockets. l Beginning to think research can be fun? You're right. lf you en- joyed your high school science courses, perhaps you should think about making a career in research. Don't get the idea that it'll be a snap, though. You'lI need to tackle a lot of preparatory study and hard work in college. But if you've got what it takes, maybe we can get together sometime and play around with a new discovery or two.
