The class of 1959 has it's class reunion in Nome, Alaska, at Pate's Place. As everyone knows, Sheralyn Pate has been very successful with her vacation resort. Working as hostess in the dining room is Henrietta Pederson. The chief cook is Jay Stickler, who can prepare the most e labor ate dishes ever. As the group begins to arrive, in walks the class sponsor, Prof. Williams, who is Professor of Commerce at Markleville University. Next to arrive is the former class president, Royce Attaway, now owner of the RDA Railways. His train brings tourists to Pate's Place daily. Arriving on the RDAR today is Kay Saunders, director of Federal Bureau of Investigation. With Kay is Lena Sullivan, head librarian for the Library of Congress. Next to arrive is Lt. Judy Walker, now on furlough from the WACS. Keith Poor has just arrived in his private plane. Stew ar de s s on Keith's plane is Sandra Braden. Another passenger on the plane is Ronnie Milburn, manager of the Starlite Movie Productions. Ronnie is filming a new picture staring Deanna Monroe known to her classmates as Darlene Donnells. She has won three academy awards in the past three years for her splendid per- formances. Her leading man is Tab Judson, another classmate who was known as Jim McDuffee. He has also won several awards. As we take another look we see a limousine driven by Gaston Seal, the great Soldier of Fortune. The well known lawyer Gary McCarty is next to arrive with the President of General Motors, Martha Smith. We hear a loud noise and look around to see a motorcycle coming up the drive with none other than the United States Champion Motorcyclist, Richard Shelton. Mike and Delores Young arrive with their children. Mike is a famous horse trainer, and Delores is a model for the Jim Pottorff Model Agency. Mary Fesler and Jo Ann Kiegley are teachers at the new Mark- leville High School. As another plane approaches Pate's Place, we see the famous Steve Butterfield and Fred Linville who are partners in an engineering firm in which they hold several valuable patents. With these two success- ful businessmen is the World's Champion Typist, Norma McCallister. Norma now types 300 words a minute. Now arriving is none other than Denny Shaffer, Champion All-Around Cowboy. He has hundreds of ex- cellent quarter-horses. He has a partner, Larry Wiles who runs a hog farm in Dawn Acres, at Markleville, Indiana. As everyone is being seated at the banquet, Donna Estelle, wife of a successful minister, and Arthur Fowler, the lawyer for the President of the United States, arrive. Nelia Collins finally arrives. She was late because of her job as Superintendent of Nurses at the Markleville Memorial Hospital. After dinner while we all tell what has happened in the past ten years, Vicki McCormack fur- nishes the entertainment by playing one of her own compositions. As the reunion comes to a close it would seem all of our classmates have been very successful. 29 5 V pq Fw T. if 1 ixN1tL'lllY K U llHH:lASSMf Z QM ayafcd cy Um C2264 juniors 'YS inn., f-' A -. , ...' '-i.':r:,x Hays And Girls State Boys and Girls State is sponsored by the American Legion and Auxiliary. In the years before, a boy has been sent but 1958 was the first time for a girl to be sent from Markle- ville. At Indiana University a mock state and government is set up. The boys and girls attending are elected to offices and follow as closely as possible to the procedure of real government. The representatives are chosen for their scholastic achievements, leadership, ability to mix with others, and personality. Markleville's representatives in 19 58 were Vicki McCormack and Fred Linville. Voice of Democracy The Voice of Democracy speech was given by any student in the upper three grades who wish to participate. The winner from Markleville was a sophomore girl, Tonia Tash. Later it was found out that only Seniors were allowed to go any farther in competition. Tonia didn't get to go on but we are sure she would have done a fine job if she had. Every year citizenship awards are given to a boy and a girl. In 1958 the winners were Margaret Jones and Ronnie Moore. They were both graduates of the 1958 class. Grain Award Larry Wiles was awarded a trophy for receiving the most points in the grain show at Markleville High School in the fall of 1958. D. A. R. Award The senior class selects three girls who have these quali- tiesg 1-Dependability including truthfulness, Loyalty and punc- tuality. 2-Service-Co-operation, c o u r t e s y , consideration of others. 3 -Leadership-personality, selfcontrol, ability to assume responsibility. 4-Patriotism-Unselfish interest in family, school, community and nation. From these three the faculty has chosen Vicki McCormack as the Good Citizen of the School for the year 1958-1959. Miss Christmas Carol L Dramatics Each year the dramatics award is presented to the best actress or actor in the .Tunior or Senior Class Play. In 19 58 the award went to Sheralyn Pate for her performance in the Junior Class Play, Her Kissin' Cousin. Before Christmas, a contest was held for all the schools in the Madison County in which the students were to write on the subject of What Christmas Means To Me . The winner from Markleville was .Tanene Collier, a Junior. Her paper was sent in along with the winners from other school. Her Paper was one of the six best in the county so therefore she got to ride on the float in the Christmas Parade. 47 it My 'K . 'r S... From tapering mouth to towering dorsal fin, the experimental Firebird Ill is imagination in motion, bristling with new ideas from many General Motors divisions. The vital heart -the electrical system-of this new concept in transportation for the future was designed and built by Delco-Remy engineers. From the compact, transistorized voltage regulator to the 110-volt auxiliary a.c, generator- powerful enough to operate home power systems in emergencies, or run appliances on camping trips-Delco-Remy's contributions to Firebird Ill engineering point out the shape of things to come in the automotive electrical equipment industry. Experimental? Yes. Exceptional? No-for working to develop improvements in the field of automotive electrical systems is a permanent task here. Rather than wait for the future, we like to step forward and meet it. IIEICU-REMY DELCO-REMY Q DIVISION OF GENERAL MOTORS 0 ANDERSON. INDIANA D. H. MILLER 8. CO.
