THE R H EDITOR X 2:3 O .ea E ASSISTANT EDITORS JANICE SPARKS LOU ANN SWINFORD DON NEUMAN BY THE SEN IORS OF MARKLEVILLE HIGH SCHOOL MARKLEVILLE INDIANA Q gl ri VVEILHELHILATTB HTTIEIAJRAJBLADV' When we were bom they shed a tear, And now to us they are so dear. We owe them our life, our love, our all For they have always been ready at our call. They watched us, while we grew, Our future plans they thought they knew. Now the time has come to show we've cared, For the helping hand they have so gladly shared. And now we say Many thanks to you, To our loving parents, so kind, so true. To you dear parents, we leave these pages, For you to cherish throughout the ages. The class of 1955 is having its first reunion at Janet Mauzy's mansion. She owns two dozen Cadillacs and has a chauffeur for each one. Each guest parks his car in the huge parking lot at the end of the lane, then they get in one of the Cadillacs and are taken to Janet's house. The first guest to arrive is Judy McDuffee who is home on furlough. She is the head of the Army Nurse Corps. She says that Alice Girt will not be able to attend because she is being married tomorrow. She is in the Nurse Corps too. The former Jane Sherman and her daughter are the next to ar- rive. Jane is a famous artist in New York City. In comes Jerry Fort. He asks everyone to vote for him as he running for President of the United States on the Democratic ticket. He finished a career of professional basketball last year and is now busy in politics. It is rumored that he and Janet Mauzy will soon be married. A loud noise is heard and Melvin Hilligoss comes in. He is driving one of his special jet-propelled racing cars. Melvin has won the Indianapolis 0500 Mile Race four times. Marie CRichardsonJ Turner, who is now manager of the Anderson J. C. Penny store, arrives with her husband. They have a son and a daughter who are in college. Janice Sparks and Betty Millage come with their husbands. Janice's husband, Bob, is now a general in the Army. Betty and Larry own the largest ranch in Texas. La Moine Miller drives up in his new pink Cadillac convertible. He has made several movies and is now a New York playboy. Ronnie Holloway, Phil Stohler, Austin McCallister, and Robert Pottorff arrive at the same time. Ronnie and Phil are co-owners of the largest poultry and livestock farm in Indiana. Aus- tin is a retired English teacher and still is a bachelor. Robert is the most fa- mous zoologist of our time. Richard McDuffee drives up in his new red semi- trailer truck. He is owner of the famous McDuffee Trucking Company. Hel- en Phillips can't attend because her five children have the measles. Joan Redmond, Norma Petty, and their husbands are the next to arrive. Joan is author of the Maddy Dictionary and Encyclopedia. Norma is now a licensed air pilot and is married to Johnny Bennett. Joyce Attaway is married and is the world's champion roller skater. She is living in Hollywood. Gene Les- ter comes driving up with his siren going full-blast. He is chasing one of Ja- net's Cadillacs. Gene, who is now a captain in the Indiana State Police, said the car was too long. He sees that Harold Moore is in the car so he doesnlt give hima ticket. Harold is taking a vacation at the time. He doesn't have much time off from his work because he is the leading surgeon in the coun- try. Lou Ann Swinford is a nurse at the Mayo Clinic. She married one of the patients who is a millionaire. She is still working because she likes her job very much. John Ent is married and is a foreman at the Delco Remy. He has two sons. Rex Anderson finally got married last year. He is working at the Ace Airport as the janitor. Loretta Young is owner of a large dairy farm in Wisconsin. She is unmarried. Don Neuman is a surveyor in South Ameri- ca. He and his family are very rich. Glenda Ebbert and Charles Jones are married. Charles was pastor of the largest Methodist church in Markleville for seven years. They and their four children are in Germany where Charles is working with Billy Graham. Mrs. McCallister, who was the sponsor of the class of 1955, is the last to arrive. She has been babysitting with her twenty grandchildren and couldn't get here on time. Everyone talks over old times and decide to meet again in five years. Every member of the class of 1955 has achieved success. CLASS HISTORY Twelve long, hard, and happy years have gone by since that day in September, 1943. On that day nine youngsters entered the doors of M. H. S. to begin their schooling. Judy McDuffee,Betty Millage, Austin McCallister, Janet Mauzy, Gene Lester, Jerry Fort, La Moine Miller, Harold Moore, and Rex Anderson answered roll-call that first day. Mrs. Beckner was their first teacher. Miss Shaw greeted her newcomers at Fall Creek that day. They were Norma Petty, Janice Sparks, Phil Stohler, and Joyce Attaway. Marie Richardson and Loretta Young joined the Markleville second grade claw. Lou Ann Swinford from Anderson joined the Fall Creek second grade. Don Neuman and Robert Pottorff became members of the Markleville group in the third grade. Fall Creek gained La Moine Miller from Markleville and Alice Girt from Anderson that year. John Ent, Ronnie Holloway from An- derson, and Janice Sparks from Fall Creek joined the Markleville fourth grade class. Markleville added Charles Jones and Melvin Hilligoss to their ranks in the seventh grade. Fall Creek gained Helen Phillips in the seventh grade. Richard McDuffee ioined the Markleville eighth grade class. We be- came one class when the Fall Creek students came to Markleville as fresh- men. Our sponsor was Mr. Smith. In our sophomore year, we gained our last three members. They were Glenda Ebbert from Kennard, Joan Redmond from Anderson, and Jane Sherman from Windfall. Mrs. McCallister was our sponsor for the remaining three years. Sweaters and rings were ordered when we were sophomores. The sweaters were royal bluewith gray letters trimmed in white. Teen Time, our junior class play, was a big success. We entertained the seniors, faculty, and guests at the junior-senior prom which was held at the Top Hat. Our final year has been full of fun. Basketball, baseball, track, parties, studies, and many other activities have made it a good year. Being runnerup at the Sectional was one of the biggest thrills of the year. Our sen- ior class play, Johnny, Get Your Girl, was presented on April 15. We had a very good time at the prom which was held at Linder's on May 13. Senior week was from May 16 to May 20. We spent our time in having fun and preparing for our final activities during that week. Our Baccalaureate was May 15. Then came that long awaited day, May 18, our Commencement day. We were both sad and happy at Commencement. We were sad to leave M. H. S. but we were happy that we had made a success of our twelve years. On Saturday, May 21, we started on our senior trip. We went to Washing- ton, New York, and Niagara Falls and returned home on May 27 to take our place in the world as young Americans. These are the highlights of our twel- ve years. THE SENIOR CLASS WISH TO SAY THANKS TO MR. RITTMAN FOR HIS ADVICE AND GUIDANCE IN HELPING TO MAKE OUR ANNUAL A SUCCESS. 'lm-1 ggumnzwrrg .vfw- 'n W .M-W- MpM Nr.-yw-' MHS.
