We stopped at the Nyal Drug Store and overheard Barbara Mills, the town gossip, talking to Betty Lung, who still works at the Nyal. She told us that Sandra Sharpe and Phillip Burns are still mak- ing their visits to the tennis courts and that Janice and Jimmy Watson have finally decided to get mar- ried. She also told us that Franklin Scott, Tommy Haley and Jesse Blain are now playing for the Har- lem Globetrotters and that Louise Burns and Eva Maddox are playing for the internationally famous Red- heads. As we went on down the street, Jimmy Wilkins stopped us and asked for a ride to the radio station. He said that he had finally gotten a job there and that it was now owned and operated by Russell Williams We found that J. C. Carter has a Dailey job in a grocery store. We also found that Marked Tree has a new factory. It seems that Charles Powell and Glen Wamble are manufacturing cowboy boots. We stopped by the jail and found that Peggy Wike had been booked for grand theft. lt seems that she had become tired of supporting the family and she broke into the school and stole Robbie a dip- loma. When we started back to our car, we were almost hit by Lester Bradford piloting the latest style rocket, by the way, it was designed by Robert Mar in his spare time. We learned that Sue Birchett, after many years of faithful service, as a telephone operator, has been replaced by the super -electro -magnetic telephone system. We also talked to Mary Jane Ford and she told us that she had become interested in piano music, especially that played by Roger Williams. We went by Mrs. Clarke's Dress Shop and we noticed that Joann Cooper was still sitting there with someone in a white Ford. We went on down the street and as we passed the Roach home and we saw Rachel and Carroll still sitting out in front of her house like they used to. We bought a copy of the Marked Tree Tribune, hoping to find some slander in it and found that Mary Whitlow, Mary Myers, and Nannie Fisher are editing an Advice to the Lovelorn column. Upon passing the house where Wilma Jean Nichols and her husband live, we saw that there was some small change running around in the yard. As we stopped by the Mack Crow home, we were greeted by Mack's lovely wife, the former Miss Patsy Ashlock, and their charming daughter, MARY, We found that it was growing late and that it was time to leave this fair city. We felt that we had done a good day's work, so with our briefcases bulging with slander and minds full of wonderful memories, we reluctantly journeyed on to another city. Page 15
