Marked Tree Arkansas March 2 1960 To Mayor Grrffrn 508 Lrberty Street Madame Mayor In makrng out my annual report on the welfare of your farr crty of Marked Tree I could not help but notrce your most promrnent of today are from the senror class of 1950 My frrst tour of rnspectron was of the towns only bar As I entered Dunbars Bar fformerly known as Docs Placej now owned by Brlly Brrdger I heard the musrc of the three prece Stardust Cavalrer Orchestra The orchestra consrsted of Frank Brunner jr on the prano J N Reynolds wrth hrs bass horn and Carl Hrpps and hrs gurtar Vocalrst Martha Blasrngame was srngrng Buttons and Bows that she made famous rn her hrgh school days I was ushered to my stool by headw arter Eddre jones romeo of the 50 senror class After seatrng myself at the bar wartress Sylvrllra Nersw ander rushed up to take my order I turned to see none other than Lefty Tolbert It seems that Lefty was feelrng mrghty low he was arrested for speedrng at 25 mrles an hour and was drow nrng hrs sorrow rn hrs frfth glass-of mrlk Upon leavrng the bar I was nearly knocked off my feet by Bob Davrs who was makrng a last desperate attempt to reach the bar but rt seems that Bob rs not the football player he used to be erther that or Mrldred Leggett has been practrcrng srnce her hrgh school days for he was tackled about the same trme he reached the door I decrded after havrng left thrs gay place to take a quret stroll through Rrtter s Park I camera rn hand Whrle chattrng wrth hrm he told me he was on hrs way to make a portrart of the famous Master famrly composed of Mr Lorrn Masters Mrs Masters CBetty Lors Osmonj and chrldren He also told me he had hrs own prrvate studro rn the Barley Hotel frt was formerly known as Hotel Morganj capably managed by Johnnre Barley Noah de parted and I strolled on toward the park I started to seat myself on the one park bench but found rt was already occupred by Aubery Bryan and Betty Lou McCvrll as lovrng as ever Aubery has become qurte successful He rs sharecropprng on forty acres of land rented to hrm by Cherry Talbot presrdent of the Northern Ohro Land Co operatron Company My next stop was The Tonr Beauty Nook run by the twrns themselves Byron and Myron Masters Manrcurrst Vrrgrnra Harmon was workrng rndustrrously on the hands of Curtrs Swan Harr stylrsts Betty Garrrson Dorrs Ivey and Dorrs Sue May were frxrng the latest harrstyles on Evalane Bennett Laverne Flemrng and Mary Farth Worthy who were to offer therr talents of srngrng and tap dancrng rn honor of the openrng of the new theater They told me that Lawrence Osmon was to be master of ceremonres he got hrs experrence from speakrng for the F F A I found everythrng rn order and decrded to be on my way I stepped out of the door to see Hayden Patton sellrng newspapers at a corner stand I could not understand thrs and when I rnqurred he told me he had not been able to do hard work srnce he broke hrs collarbone playrng football rn 1950 I bought a copy of the paper The Scandalrzer whrch was edrted by Gerald Marr and Georgra Doty The headlrnes were succeeded in taking a few steps in the direction of the park when I met Noah Hazel,
