Tl ' GO For It! In the past the JV Girls ' basketball team has always done well, this year is no exception. Under the supervi- sion of Coach Polnner, the new coach, they were ex- pected to fulfill their expectations. LOWER RIGHT One on one — Leslie Kaneko driving down the court in a game UPPER LEFT Up for two — Ruth Aka- hoshi attempts a basket during a gome ogainst Arroyo Girls Varsity Basketball Team With a winning streak for the past two yeors holding a 20-0 re- cord, varsity basketball strives for a third year of victory. The team consists of 1 1 seniors and one freshman Among the four returning varsity players ore R. Akahoshi, D. Grbac, L. Honda, and N. Matsumoto. Among last year ' s JV players who have moved up to Varsity are M. fra- zier, L. Kaneko, A. Martin, L. Mar- tinez, and D. Senaha, pius an ad- dition of three new players, sen- iors D. Gofanda, K. Hua and freshman N. Morihiro. Coaching for varsity for the third straight year is Karen Maynard. The team is at a disadvantage this year since most of the players are rather short. L Ong, R Tavarez Paul Baldwin — Head Coach, T Daughtery — Statistician ' Not Pictured) This year Keppel has a new freshman basketball coach — Keppel grad. Coach Tony Grboc. For many years Coach Grboc has been involved with the tennis program and decided to give basketball a try. They won first place in their own Tournament by defeating such teams as Los Altos, San Marino, and San Gabriel In the Championship Game, In the Los Altos Tournament, they placed second by defeating Los Altos, Glendora and then losing to Bish- op Amat. With thirteen players deep the team is going strong and has high hopes of winning their league The sophomore basketball team did equally as well. Led by Due Quach and Lim Ong, the team has been quite successful By defeating Schurr, Arroyo, and then losing to San Gabriel, they placed a strong second in the Son Ga- briel Tournament Since they have done so well in the pre- season, they also have high hopes of winning their league Coach Baldwin emphasizes ploying good basketball, working as a team, and most of all, having fun.
