Dare to Be Different Do your own thing, Walk to the beat of a difterent drummer, and I ' m O.K., You ' re O.K. were popular mottos of the late sixties and early seventies. As we progress through the eighties, we find ourselves encountering a time of Dare fo Be Different. Glancing around campus, it is quite evident that students have adopted Dare to Be Differ- ent as their motto. It is true that student life is comprised of individuals of many different ethnic backgrounds, languages, cultures, and beliefs, but having a different ethnic background with different cultural beliefs and speaking a different language does not necessarily make one individ- ual different from another. Dare to Be Different has to do with self-ex- pression. It ' s a way of expressing one ' s individual- ity whether it ' s cutting and styling one ' s hair in a special manner or putting on unusual attire. It ' s striving beyond those limits and expressing our- selves in ways which we believe in. We dare to be unique and because we ' re secure in our- selves, we accept others for who they ore and realize that there is enough room for all our styles and values. .V, 4 - 4
