iv ' Am I bold enough to express my individuality Stand out from the crowds and be myself? The only person in red instead of white? I know everyone is unique because it ' s impossible for two people to be exactly alike, even twins, I want to be no- ticed, but I ' m so scared of what people might think The classic case of stereotyping — nerds, fobs, nips, beeners. You name the person, he ' s been classified. It ' s so hard to be different and be accepted at the same time. Yet these people have the courage and boldness to be different. Mark- ing their style and originality unlike the rest of us who hide behind our drobby clothes and tiny voices. Anyone can moke himself a rare character. The question is whether you are willing to take that risk and be someone who will always be remembered as part of the treasured memories of Keppel life. 8 Are You Bold Enough Opening

Dare to Be Different Do your own thing, Walk to the beat of a difterent drummer, and I ' m O.K., You ' re O.K. were popular mottos of the late sixties and early seventies. As we progress through the eighties, we find ourselves encountering a time of Dare fo Be Different. Glancing around campus, it is quite evident that students have adopted Dare to Be Differ- ent as their motto. It is true that student life is comprised of individuals of many different ethnic backgrounds, languages, cultures, and beliefs, but having a different ethnic background with different cultural beliefs and speaking a different language does not necessarily make one individ- ual different from another. Dare to Be Different has to do with self-ex- pression. It ' s a way of expressing one ' s individual- ity whether it ' s cutting and styling one ' s hair in a special manner or putting on unusual attire. It ' s striving beyond those limits and expressing our- selves in ways which we believe in. We dare to be unique and because we ' re secure in our- selves, we accept others for who they ore and realize that there is enough room for all our styles and values. .V, 4 - 4
