New Marquee Dedicated vzsrfn ON T gal T T 1 AR DAYSDREAMS EKTUDAYS Zim 8' A long cherished dream became a reality for lVlark Keppel High School students on Tuesday, October 17, when a new marquee was dedicated on the front lawn of the school. Following the presentation of two numbers by the lVlark Keppel A Capella Choir, directed by Gary Hall, Keelie lVlaly, Student Body President, outlined the background ofthe project. In 1973, the students began a campaign to raise funds for the purchase of a new lighted marquee to replace the old damaged letter board by selling magazine subscriptions. Students continued the project during subsequent years, but little progress was made until Ken lVlcCoy and James Glendenning, Industrial Arts teachers at the school, volunteered to design and build the marquee in their plastics and metal shop classes. Honored guests attending were Board members Richard Amador, Ron Apperson, William Bridges, Charles Scanlon, and Nlrs. lVlancha Kurlich. Dr. Bruce Peppin, Superintendent of Alhambra Schools, and lVlrs. Dora Ortiz, PTA President, also attended. Gary A. Taylor, lVlayor of Rosemead, and Ernest Duncan, representing lVlayor of Parker Williams were present. Representing Mark Keppel's administrative staff were lVlr. lVlaynard Horst and lVlrs. Kay Becker, Vice Principals. Approximately 150 students also watched the presentation. 1OfTheme

Telling it like it IIS' The Aztec is the biweekly newspaper put out by the students of lVlark Keppel. The editors, Jeanette Woo and Glenn Sueyoshl, work very hard to keep us informed on sports, entertainment, and local news. Putting together a yearbook is more than just taking pictures. It is carefully choosing the right pictures, and making the right decisions to make the yearbook a great one. This year's annual staff has successfully done that. lVlark Keppel's debate team has been very successful. It has kept up the tradition of a powerful speech squad. With members Cindy Tester and lVlitch lVIaki, taking lst and 2nd, respectively, at the Junior Chamber of Commerce Tournament, the team looks very promising. The team is looking to Glenn Sueyoshi, who placed 2nd in his house at the National Forensic Student Congress held last June in Chicago, Ill., to once again be the outstanding member of the squad.
