Directed by Mr. Harold Salisbury and student directors june Bishop and Carolyn Meeks, this hilarious play was presented on Novem- ber l3, l4, and l5. It was the story of a professional boxer, joe Pendelton, who is taken to heaven sixty years too early by the over anxious messenger, 70l 3. He can't stay in heaven for it is against regulations, but he also can't go back to living his former life because his body was destroyed. Mr. jordan, the custodian of the Pearly Gates, sends him back to earth to inhabit the body and live the life of a wealthy financier, Mr. Farnsworth, who is about to be murdered. 32 of Lelia Heintz Bob Browning Bonnie Bradbury PERS NALITIES loc Erwin The editors are pleased to present these outstanding campus personalities of l948. Their charm and appeal have earned for them the friendship and admiration of our entire student body. The masculine members of our student body will remember the sparkling personality of Betty Siringo, the versatile talents of Lelia Heintz, and the charm and vitality of Bonnie Bradbury. On the other hand the better half of the Student Body can still be seen drooling over the masculine pulchritude of Norman Brown, the brilliant witticisms of jovial joe Erwin, and the unusual talent of that great thespian, Bob Browning. Varsity coaches, Mr. Seixas and Mr. Austin, along with the rest of the team, deserve a lot of credit for their hard work during the season. The Aztecs started by traveling to South Pasadena. The Tigers were ahead 19-I6 when the gun went off ending a close, exciting season opener for the Aztecs. The leather-luggers took the sting out of their previous defeat when they scalped Glendale Broadway by a 13-0 score. Meeting El Monte in the first league game, the Aztecs tamed the Lions in a decisive 28-O victory. The Keppelites then traveled to Whittier where the Cardinals won a close l4-l3 game. The Aztecs came back to show their stuff when they defeated the Long Beach Poly jackrabbits 21-6. The Long Beach Wilson Bruins seemed to be a little stiffer competition for the Aztecs and the battle ended in a 7-7 deadlock. Probably the game with the most suspense of the season occurred when the Aztecs played the Excelsior Pilots and defeated them 2-0. The score was made when a long pass from Woolverton to Lloyd Brown was intercepted by a Pilot back behind his own goal line. Brown quickly tackled the luckless Pilot for a safety and the win- ning two points. The Aztecs next met the mighty Moors from Alhambra, and with the league title in the balance, the Aztecs came through and defeated the Moors 20-l3. This was one of the most exciting contests that the Atzecs played all season. The Aztecs went into the C.l.F. Playoffs where they were defeated 33-0 by a smooth-working Santa Monica Viking team. Tommy Garcia, center and team Captain, was chosen for the second consecutive year on the All C.l.F. first team. pang HAD Y Willoughby Esswein Sfemen Holzinger Allan Hatch Moran Keith Ballock Weaver Garcia Ludvickson Hazzard Dye Woolverton Letourneau x A VY Karan Brown, N. Withbut many returning Iettermen but a lot of willing freshmen, Coach Blynn Wilson's l.V. horsehiders held their own in league competition. Having a very good defensive infield and a hard slugging outfield they may prove to be one of the top teams turned out here at Keppel sinme the sports program started. Some of the outstanding players-Don jenkins, Termite McClelland and Phil Lucas will help to hold the determined outfit together. The I. Undefeated in league and practice dual meets, the Aztec squad under Coach Strother went on to win in the C.l.F. Divisional meet and take second in the C.l.F. Southern California Finals. In the finals they suffered their only setback of the season when they dropped to Point Loma. In retaining the Pacific League Championship, which they won in l946, the team became the first athletic team in Keppel's history to accomplish such a feat. The potent Aztecs entered nineteen contests in l946 and 1947, losing only two. The other of the two setbacks was from San Diego Hoover in the l946 Divisionals. The Aztecs scored a total of 319 points in the last season, to their opponent's 974. In cross country the low score is declared winner. In the C.I.F. Finals, Eddie Mclntosh took a fourth place and covered the l.85 mile course in 9 minutes l0 seconds to set a new school record. awww fp, CROSS COUNTRY Acosta Bangs Brown Crowson Dewey H unt jones Kaysen Mc I ntosh Pompey Richards Stewart Tinucci Yakimoff Coach Strol-her VARSITY TENNIS ROW l: Leber Puiol Fox ROW 2: Cardehez lhllanageri, Walcott, Huff, Lortie, Klein, Coach Horne. This year our Legislative Council has helped immensely in straightening out many of our school difficulties. The legislative Council consists of one person from each B9 Speech Class, A9 Orientation class, BIO and AIO English classes, BII and AII History classes, BIZ Civics class and AI2 Senior Problems class. The Council meets to discuss new ideas, and after the meetings each member reports the results to the class he represents, then leads the students in discussion. Thus every person in school has an opportunity to express his own ideas. The council under the able advisership of Mr. Buck has accomplished many worthwhile projects. The officers for the past year were Dick Reid, first semester speaker and lim Dye, second semester speaker. Each student should realize and appreciate the aid rendered to our student body by the Legislative Council. GIRLS' EAGUIE F . SEQ! Every girl at Mark Keppel is automatically a member of the Girls' League. Each semester the officers meet with Mrs. janet White, girls' Vice Principal, and choose girls from each grade to represent their class. This year the Girls' League has again been busy. They have sponsored such activities as luggage day and the annual fashion show. Student models were used in the show which was received enthusiastically by the girls. ix..
