Some students see Manst as an 8 to 3 job, a mechanical routine, while to others it s more f W ' V i . ' V J to seniors, the approach is one of hard work. During football season, Fridays are a series of pregame warmups . . . . leading up to the game that night. 10 11 Of course, interest is not always on the game itself. 12 - ' -;+- II, ' . ' M.zA.-M.-A-: ' - ' ii S; :- - mm Miss Carol Barton 1972 Homecoming Queen j msa BHll .m l4f 15 A true representation of Manst 16 involves much more than |ust football. 17 Body English speaks of students ' activity of pas- sivity during classroom hours . . . A diligent face tells of . . . a serious task at hand. ' W: ' ' 18 Laughter helps class hours move quickly so does sleeping. Solitude can sometimes be helpful before class 20 . . . but a little help from some friends is alwoys wel- come. 21 Although students will argue whether the military at Marist is a positive influence or o waste of time, its effect on the student body cannot be denied. 22 23 24 Other students see the military as a deterrent to hair length, although to several it represents a fifteen minute social gathering. 25 mmM Ultimately, the best rep- resentation of Marist is the individual students themselves. 26 For Marist does not represent one conglomerate personality, but six-hundred different ways of thinking, living, and acting. 27 28 I ,Mi CLASS OF SEVENTY-EIGHT T -f V ' r mikiM Mauel Anton Lorry Ball Robert Borr Richard Barnes Michael Beshara Christopher Bohrer Charles Bowling Philip Cannon Richard Chandler Patrick Chkoreff Brian Coffsky John Cowart Chris Ebeling Dale Eichberg Charles EIrod David Ferguson Dan Ferguson 32 Frank Hester Groy Heusel Jere Home Eric Huber William Huntley Manuel Insignares Dennis Johnson Marvin Key Robert Kizer Jeff Knighton Andrew Lee Gregg Litchfield Schuyler Foulkes Donald Frey Kenneth Franck William Giffm John Graybill Robert Haggard Timothy Honey Robert Horns William Hartrompf Peter Hennessy 33 o m (- f i £1 Wllliom Lucas Martin Matthews Brian Messier John Murray Neal Osborn David Quinn Jeffery Richardson Tony Mammaert Stephen Ross Messer Patrick Nagle Jeffrey Parker James Rellly Gerald Romberg Stephen Massmgale McElhannon James McKenzie Jay Mitchell Robert Ondillo David Parr John Revell Anthony Sanders 34 «H d diM f- - fesis; x 1 Kim Sawyer Robert Schneider Thomos Sexton Matthew Schuster John Schwarzchild Donald Shaw Dovid Shilhng Michael Sissine Michael Sullivan Richard Wampler Thomos West Gregory Sweetin Carl Watry Jonathan Weygandt Jomes Thomos James Watson Howard Ybung John Thomas Kyle Webb 35 .v i .V % .1 C.i f. --., Ki% r7 r i...- t,j- Lory Aoron Jeff Allen Mark Alsop Bill Andrews Steven Barrett Robert Becerra Robert Beckley Earle Bensmg John Bittner Robert Bobinski Claud Brackett Mark Bradley Al Braxton Allen Browning 36 ' dk P 1 © V t A. « f f-t hdh I James Burnett Bruce Campbell Robert Cannon Chris Carlisle Ronald Cartledge Peter Cavanagh Chip Clarke Robert Collins James Comerford James Conway Dan Cowart Mike Czekala Gary Daughters Jeff Davidson David Derek Mark Dickie Turner Duffey Scott Dyche Scott Elliott Jeffery Faoss James Flanagon Gregory Ford James Gilbert Mark Girardeau 37 lim xtdkd % y rj Wp . : ¥ 0 A •i i ii Julion Gomez Reed Haggard Will Hagins Michoel Hole Todd Hoi I William Honke Phillip Hardy Mork Horper John Helms Richard Henshow Raul Hernondez Lee Herron George Heusel Phillip Hood Hortwell Hooper Jonathan Hudson Karl Jorvis Bruce Joyner Ben Kingree Jay Knouf Jim Kramer Geoffrey Krown Brion Kunzelmann David Lindwoll 38 it hmk 5 i l 4ii Nigel MacWilkinson. It was but yesterday we met in a dream. You have sung to me in my aloneness, and I of your longings have built a tower in the sky. But now our sleep has fled and our dream is over, and it is no longer dawn. The noontide is upon us and our half waking has turned to fuller day, and we must part. If in the twilight of memory we should meet once more, we shall speak ogam together and you shall sing to me a deeper song. And if our hands should meet in another dream we shall build another tower in the sky. — Kohlil Gibron 200 The space for this page was donated by The Howell House The Darlington Apartments Sponsors Father Jomes L. The words tell much about the man who said them. Sgt. Thomas was a man of singular dedication and loyalty to the people and ideals he believed m. In his years of teaching and coaching at Marist, Sgt. Thomas won the admiration, respect, and friendship of the young men he worked with, due to his wholehearted devotion to them and to the school. His athletic teams were phenominolly successful because of his own contagious enthusiasm, which mode the practices, as well as the gomes, enjoyable occasions. John Thomas has the rare certainty of character to know what he stood for, and the seldom-found courage to stand by his convictions consistently, in spite of any opposition he may have encountered. Although people sometimes strongly disagreed with his beliefs, they never belittled the man him- self. If anything, his strength of character lent unusual credence to his thoughts, which he never hesitated to shore with his students. The man was such on integral part of the school as a whole that we perhaps never considered what it would be like without him. Now we have the realization of his genuine impact on our lives. Now, we belatedly discover how highly we valued his presence among us. But perhaps it ' s true that truly outstanding people never re- ally die. We can only hope thot Sgt, Thomas left a portion of his great loyalty, devotion, courage, love, and concern to his family and to all of us who knew him. The doctors blamed his death on a weak heart. But )ust ask anyone who knew him — he suffered from no such malady. There was never o time, in his entire life, when his heart failed either himself or those he loved.
