Science Keeping pace with the spirit of change at Marist, the Science Department added to its curriculum two new teachers, one subject and an important event. Mrs. Lewis and Mr. Houston joined the Science Department hoping to give each student a better understanding of their environment, whether it be the earth or the entire universe. Physical Science, the course addition to the department, was offered to some ninth and tenth grade students. The event was the Regional Science Fair, in which the Science Department hosted schools from the Atlanta area. y (Clockwise) Mr. Houston. Earth Science. Aerospace In 1966 when Marist was invited to join the Junior Air Force ROTC program, she readily accepted, realizing that in this Space Age the Air Force was adapted to the needs of today ' s youth. The Aerospace Department has proven itself worthy of the school ' s confidence. The three instructors, Colonel Jindrich, Sargeant Thomas, and Sargeant Hardy instruct each cadet in leader- ship ability, navigation, the history of the Air Force and the Space Age, pilotry, and many other related areas. Aerospace Education is limited to the ninth through the twelfth grades. These four years not only aid in the expansion of each cadet ' s knowledge, but also prepare him for college AFROTC pro- grams. Each student graduated from Marist with four years of Aerospace Education is credited with two years of college-level Air Force ROTC. (left to right) Sgt, Thomas. Aerospace 1. Religion Part of the uniqueness of Marist School is its concern with the religious and spiritual life of the students, and as an apostalate of the Society of Mary, Marist has a long line of tradition in its religious concern and moral enlightenment of its students. The religious department offers a six- year curriculum, helping Catholics and non-Catholics to form religious, spiritual, and social values. Students are offered two courses of study; Religion, intended primarily for Catholics and Charac- ter Development for non-Catholics. (left to right) Fr, Hogan. Religion 12. Character Development 12. Math An understanding ot Math is essential in any vocation or field of study a student wishes to enter. Under study this year in the Math Department are innovative projects designed to give Marist students that needed understanding. Acquiring a computer terminal this year, the department offered an extracurricular course in programming during the second semester. Their hopes are that the course will be included in the curriculum next year and eventually the computer can be used as a teaching aid in other math courses. Also tried this year were new approaches to conventional material such as programed courses designed to give students more individual instruction and attention.
