Jazz Ensemble The Jazz Ensemble once more had a good year under the able leadership of Andy Gilbert. They visited several schools, played at the Pleasant Hill Jazz Festival, and met with wide approval at a Spring Concert at which they performed jointly with the Wind Ensemble, While not doing as well as they had hoped at the Jazz Festival, they made a respectable showing, and proved that they are truly the cream of the young jazz musicians of the state of Oregon. Pep Band Helps Spark Enthusiasm At Games The lVlarist Pep Band showed up in force once more at the football and basketball games this year. This dedicated group of musicians, comprised of members from the symphonic band and the jazz ensemble, showed up at the games to provide a rallying force for the students in the Marist section and for the teams. Sacrificing many hours of homelife the band members are ready for all the games while under the expert leadership of lVlr. Andy Gilbert. Top, Nlatt Whelen applauds the pep band after a particularly fine set: bottom, three Marist musicians show their stuff, Nlarty Gay on trumpet, Kim Banton on clarinet, and Sarah Peniston on soprano sax. 82 Pep Band
