The track had to be remeasured in meters and many field event areas changed for convenience and to meet State qualifications. There was also an entirely new coaching staff headed by Br. Ronald Horbatiuk. His assistants were Mr. Newman and Miss Julie Welborn. Marist also hosted the first Sky-Em District Track Meet. The Boys team placed third in the district while the girls tied for second. Altogether both teams sent eleven people to the State Meet at Mount Hood Community College. The boy's 400 meter relay team of Daryl Moser, Randy Harrison, Shawn Waters and Jerry Barbisan set a league record of 44.6 to earn a chance to compete in the State finals. John Nagel went to State in the 1500 and 3000 meter runs with times of 4:14 and 9:21. Jerry Barbisan also competed in the longjump and the 200 at Mt. Hood. The girl's 400 and 1600 meter relay teams placed first at the district meet entitling them to a trip to State. Dolores May competed in four events at Mt. Hood: the last leg of the 400 meter relay, the 100 and 200 meter sprints and the longjump. Kelley Olsen placed in three events: the 400 and 1600 meter relay, and the 400 meter run. Laura Jones placed in the 400 and 1600 meter relays. Others that went to State on relay teams were Mari Oien, Mary Ficker, and Laurie Moran. Mike Holmes and Dolores May took high point honors. As can be seen by the new record chart in Junior hall, the '78 track season was very successful. If the strong nucleus formed this year will continue to compete, the Spartan Track team will dominate the field. 66 Track

Baseball 10-ll The J .V. baseball team though young and in- experienced capped off a banner year with a 10-4 record. Faced with adversities of heavy rains, field availabilities and playing primarily against upperclassmen, the members of the team kept a positive, competitive spirit. To go along with their strong character, this group possessed a unique feeling of oneness to build a strong foundation for the future of the Marist Baseball Program. Individual leaders were Dan Proulx, Cather, Shortstop Darren Hotman, Third BasemanXSteve Splonskciwski, Left FielderJim Stacy, and Greg Powell at Center Field. Scott Halbrook, with a pitching record of 5-1, was voted by his teammates as this season's lVlost Inspira- tional player. The team was coached by lVlr. Phil Brus and Joe Schnabel. Baseball 65
