Unsung Heroes When one refers to a behind-the-scene organization, the one that first comes to mind is the stage crew. Its whole exist- ence is based upon that single premise of unsung service. Each time the theater guild puts on a production the scene must be set, designed, and created from scratch by the stage crew. Lights and microphones must be positioned for the show to be a success and hours of work go into the build- ing and painting of a single scene, which is essential to the success of any good performance. , 1 -.4-,Q-.. - r, t i iiiiiff f , sfiw . Blueprints for the Future Commencement exercises for the Class of 1978 were held on Sat- urday, June 3, at four o'clock. Four hundred thirty-eight seniors received their diplomas signifying the completion of their four- year education at Marist. As the graduates marched in, the Marist Band played Pomp and Circumstancef' Brother Anthony lazzetti addressed the graduates, their parents, teachers, and friends. He stated that Marist's main concern is not merely to see a reflection of its ideals, but an absorption of these ideals by the students. Brother also said that the Marist family takes great pride in the many young men in the Class of '78 because they have committed themselves to the ideals of Marist, the ideals of Christianity, he expressed the hope that these ideals would be a significant part of their lives. He said, We realize that no one can prepare the path of life for the graduate, we can only hope that we have helped prepare the graduate for the path of life . . . The diplomas, Brother stated, are heavy with expecta- tions. Among the expectations Brother referred to were those of the teachers that the students would think clean, clear, straight, and frequently. . . that they would be teachable, essentially wanting to grow in wisdom and understanding. Fellow citizens expect him to be a good citizen, informed about the world but loyal to America and the ideals for which it stands. Friends and neighbors, too, continued Brother, expect the graduate to have a special ability of understanding and caring for people, any people, all people. His final wish to the graduates was that they who helped to build Marist and to make it what it is will continue to carry a bit of Marist throughout their lives and make it what it will become. 196
