fa? ff f Mfg yi MARIST OAPTURE9 STATE AA CHAMPIONSHIP CONGRATULATIONS to the winningest State Championship Team in Prep history - MARIST - finishing with a magnificent 38-4-1 record. But it's no surprise when such a team turns up several out- standing players as all-State, all-star Bob Hallas and his record 18-O pitching success, or Tim Pyznarski, also an all-State, all-star out- fielder, or the remaining players whose determination and ability to take on any situation surpassed the home-team advantage held by Peoria Richwood to capture the State crown. The all out team effort and superior coaching by Coach Don Kuehner and Assistant Coach Mike Dooley showed everyone they were State bound back when they slugged through a conference record of 10-2, continuing with victories over Brother Rice, Eisenhower, and DeSaIes for Regional Championship. In the sectionals they defeated Thornwood and St. Laurence in a thrilling 5-4 extra-inning game to reach the down State teams in the elite 8. Down State the key to Marist's success was the squeeze play. In the final game for the championship title, Coach Don Kuehner gambled the squeeze and WON 5-3. TEAMWORK WON THE TITLE! The Marist State record speaks for itself: Marist 8 - Springfield Lamphien 3 Marist 8 - Mundeleir 2 Marist 5 - Peoria Richwoods 3 CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WINNINGEST STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM IN PREP HISTORY -- THE HARD HITTING, SMOOTH FIELD- ING, SOLID PITCHING REDSKINS OF 1978.
