NH9 Offers Cultural Enrichment The '77-'78 year was one of growth for the National Honor Soci- ety. They aimed to fulfill their vow of service to the school commu- nity. The induction ceremony opened the year with 52 new members being accepted into the society. New and old members then went right to work by sponsoring a Gong Show which proved to some 900 people that Marist has some very talented people, along with a few clowns. Next a cultural assembly was held and the whole student body had a chance to experience the wit and humor of none other than Mark Twain. Second semester brought the second annual Art Contest. Over 25 of Marist's fine artists displayed their works, with awards going to the best works of art. Next the NHS pre- sented a concert for the entire student body - none other than Marist's own Band. The students enjoyed this since many of them never had the opportunity to hear just how fine a band Marist has. 2 . 7 'X Af 95.11

The Freshmen did fairly well despite having many students wrestling at the Sophomore and Varsity levels. The Freshmen, however, did defeat Notre Dame, Forest View, and Curie while finishing the season at a 3 and 3 record. The Sophomores had a very success- ful season by winning five, losing two, and tying one. The highlight of the season was a triple dual meet at Luther South in which the Sopho- mores handily defeated Luther South and Quigley South. X

X ' The NHS's major project of the year came in April when they held the annual Career Day. On this day 62 professions were represented. Throughout the year many unnoticed projects were taking place around the school. One such project was the tutoring program. Here many NHS members gave up their time after school to help other students. Although it was a good year for the NHS, it is only a beginning. It is hoped that the future will hold even bigger and brighter things. . , v..- 4 i 5'3
