Slip Slidin' Awag Fairbanks, Alaska? Duluth, Minnesota? No, Chicago, Illinois! This is the way Chicago looked after one of the city's worst winters. Sub-zero temperatures, frequent snowfalls, and icy blasts of wind were all characteristics of a normal day this winter. The city was subjected to an unprecedented 80 inches of snow, the most in Chicago's history. Everyone felt the effects of mother nature. Students waited for buses that never came. Teachers' cars were barricaded behind snow- packed garage doors. Everyone experienced some form of cold or flu throughout winter '78. Some of the more visible marks left by this winter were the low attendances in school in contrast to the high attendances at ski lifts. A good snow- ball fight could be found almost anywhere.
