FROSH-SOPH SOCCER JUST FOR KICK9 This year's Sophomore Soccer continued its moves toward growth and development. Although the record shows the team breaking even, the actual performance on the field saw more skill and talent then ever before. With the offensive drive of Andy Karas, Dan Nolan, Mike Sabal, and Brian Ouealy, and the defensive strength of Steve Black, Chris Bannon, and goa- lies Mark Sykora and Mike Sczczniewski and an overwhelming team effort, the team looks for- ward to a promising future of success and acco- lades. The Fall saw over 52 new freshmen try out for Soccer, more than in any previous year. With much hard work and determination they were able to put together a respectable season of 3-3- 2. The year was a learning experience since many members of the team had never played soccer before. However, by October the Fresh- man Soccer Squad blossomed into a spirited team.

-gkP' . . . More Than Bricks The Construction of a building needs certain essential mate- rials: blueprints, bricks, cement, lumber. When the founda- tion is dug and the cement is poured, there is a basis for the entire structure. As construction proceeds, the floors, walls, and ceilings shape up, and the general framework of the edifice is visible. Structure is now functional. We see this building process occur daily at Marist. Each individual forms a brick, and many bricks ioined together constitute unity of structure. Like contractors, teachers and administrators draw up blueprints by organizing clubs and academic courses. Through years of study, adjustment, and involve- ment in activities, a solid foundation, an Hesprit de corps, - a camaraderie begins to form among students, adminis- trators, and staff. Commitment and dedication of adminis- trators, staff, and students give birth to a distinct group of individuals who establish themselves as one unified commu- nity. The mortar that unifies our structure and cements the Marist community is love, trust, loyalty, and understanding, summed up in two words - school spirit. It is this SCHOOL SPIRIT - better known as the unique MARIST SPIRIT - which furthers growth in EDUCATION FOR TIME AND ETER- NITY. . .a BUILDING not only of mortar and brick - but a BUILDING OF MEN. w-vMwwy?N ,.,, Wlme3QYWt Qwwrrrrrr 1 .1 sa:
