From Classical . . . to Broadwag . . . to Rook With a record number of 129 bandsmen in 1977-1978, the Marist High School Band experienced its most successful year in its fourteen-year history. Five superbly executed half-time shows were the result of many long, arduous hours of practice. As quickly as the marching season ended, the band assumed its concert nature in preparation for the annual Christmas Concert which included a variety of music ranging from classical to Broadway to rock. The Spring semester saw the band begin its preparation for their three state, 2500 mile tour of the East coast. Playing seven concerts in four days, the band brought its music to seven Marist Brother's high schools. The tour culminated with the band's return to Chicago and the presentation of the annual Spring concert. Thanks to the fine leadership ofthe senior band members and the guidance of the phenomenal Mr. Frank Nlanna, the band was able to grow to new heights in the areas of talent, capability, and fraternity. gmail xc Mm ,--..

V ar' gc, A V , FALL FEQT '7 7 While the student body was reacting with cries of What? Change Homecoming? the Student Council was busy putting the finish- ing touches onthe all new FALL FEST '77. The changes came about as the Council tried to re-shape the old tradition into a new, more meaningful Marist community celebration. With this in mind, new activities appeared for the first time at Marist. Joining forces with the Student Council, the National Honor Society pro- duced, directed, and otherwise provided Marist with its first Gong Show on Thursday, October 20. Elvis McKinney and the Hound- dogs, managing to escape ungonged, collected the grand prize of 52216. Friday, October 21, was designated as Spirit Day - a grub day with a voluntary donation made to the Marist missions. ln all, 5375.00 was collected. Friday afternoon saw the return of the Bun for Marist Marathon with a total of 35 runners completing a grueling eight mile course. After collecting their pledges, the run- ners presented Brother Anthony with a check for 51000.00 to be donated to the building fund. To complete this activity-packed day, Friday night was billed as a Beatles night complete with Bea- tles films, soundtracks, and the best Beatles band in the country. Saturday, October 22, saw some remnants of the old celebration with the traditional football game, this year played in our new sta- dium, followed bythe Fall Fest semi-formal, The Sun's Coming Up. At this dance, Marybeth Brennan, a Senior at Mother McAuley, was crowned Fall Fest Oueen. lt was an exciting week. lt was lots of fun. Fall Fest Chairman, Jim Jacobsen, ably assisted by Councilmen Chris Patricoski, Bon Dav- ies, Bill Katzenberger, Joe Bentley, Ed Halleran brought some- thing new and exciting to Marist. 9-2 fiat l
