The strength and ability of the 1976-77 Marist Soccer team was put to a test this year, the team playing its toughest schedule ever. During their long and grueling season, they were crippled by injuries to key players. Nevertheless, they proved through their persistence and endurance to be an excellent team and a superior con- tender for the crown title in the future. WORLD FOOTBALL 3

Q g WMV' A.,V , 1 35 MARIST SERVE, 40-LOVE Wi' Ni' Our Marist Varsity Tennis Team came in second in Conference this season fbeing edged out by a tough St. Patrick's teaml. Forming the nucleus of the team were the Seniors, all of whom played varsity 3 of their 4 years at Marist. Earl Ebers played first singles, Doug Mellen and Bill Abolt played first doubles, Junior Greg Temofeew played second singles, Sophomore Bill Zidek played third singles, and Rich Temofeew and Dave Kaiser played se- cond doubles. Rounding out the rest of the varsity squad were: Juniors Mike Cronin, Mike Casey, and Mark Gillespie. For the first time in Marist history, in District competition, the team finished in first place, despite a challenging St. Laurence team. In an all Marist Singles Final, Greg Temofeew defeated Earl Ebers to take first place. Doug Mellen and Bill Abolt won the district doubles title in defeating St. Laurence in the final. The other doubles team of Bill Zidek and Rich Temofeew lost in the first round but still traveled with the others to Arlington Heights to the State Tourney. In state competition, Greg Temofeew played his way to the top 20 in the state. Earl Ebers, and the team of Bill Abolt and Doug Mellen, finished in the top 40 in the state. More than 600 entries in singles and 600 in doubles are more than enough evidence of a very successful season!
