DEDICATION . NO PRGBLEMH BRO RON lt is appropriate that the 1977 Plainsman be dedicated to a man who has devoted all his energies to Marist. A cheerful no problem has echoed through the classrooms and athletic fields of Marist for eleven years. An era with Horbs is coming to a close. We all realize that high school years are more than study years. These years are a time for sorting things out. Brother Ron has aided this process for many students. Whether working on Freshmen Retreats or preparing for State Track competition, he has instilled a spirit of un- selfish concern and friendship. We will long appreciate the role Horbs has played in our development. This tribute to coach, teacher, Brother and OK-person takes on a form that is more vibrant than merely dedicating a yearbook. The finest tribute to Brother Ron is seen in the lives of the people he has touched. is ' B v 'i ss B 2 Q l m

There are many things about this year that will stay with us no matter where our lives may carry us. It often seems, when we look back, that the tough times weren't so bad, and the good times were even better. There were many unique characteristics of 1977. A new scheduling system left some students in a daze and others in delight. Due to a cold winter, we all listened to our radios in hopeful an- ticipation of a snow day. We watched intensely all year long at football, basketball, baseball, track, hockey, soccer, cross-country, and golf games. 1976-77 was overshadowed by joy and sadness. Bro. Vincent Collela, who shared his life with those of us at Marist, died on April 5, 1977, but he left a piercing impression on all of our lives. Near Christmas, Richard J. Daley passed away. He, too, shared his life with the people of Chicago. This year also held a certain amount of joy. lt held the joy that we experience on a Retreat, the joy of a 30 on the ACT, and the joy of a pink slip when we're late. lt held the joy of friends, and the joy of 2:30. But most of all, 1977 held for all of us the joy of being free to BE and to BECOME.

l T BAND TOURS DIXIE l Marist High School boasts what it believes to be one of the best high school bands around. Along with its usual fantastic Christmas and Spring concerts, this group of talented musicians won a first place award for its performance in the St. Patrick's Day Parade. The Band conquered the South with a tour of three Southern states, which included a concert at the Alabama State Capitol. The concert was followed by a reception hosted by Gov. George Wallace. T The Band has worked very hard throughout the year, wvith practices every morning and frequent long after- lnoon sessions. We think it was worth it. firQgQ.3LE K - v T . . gx... , l . 1 ,. ,gg at W if ..,... ,X 'fn 1,4 Qs,-.s.... . .ip -- ii' - ,... . 1 ' x,,, , A A, , , M... , M 'Q , V, ,....
