English And Speech Communication Tools Mrs. Judy Ray and Mrs. Carol Carlton headed the English Department at MHS offering such courses as: mass media, novels, appreciation of literature, language arts, speech, drama I and ll, and oral interpretation. The mass media classes worked on The Big C, the new school paper. The paper was sold on a monthly basis and contained articles written by students. The drama classes presented two 50's skits and one Carol Burnett skit. An after dinner speaking event was held by the speech classes and hosted by Bruce Burk and Gary Huff. Health classes this year were taught by Susan Alley and Ron Hogue. This was Ms. Alley's third year, and Mr. Hogue's first year. Many extras such as filmstrips, current events, and outside guests were used to il- lustrate the importance of health education. ln addition to these helpful aids the instruc- tors used class discussions and lectures to make their classes interesting. Due to new school construction, art was moved to the old weight-lifting room. Mrs. Anne Jones Iivened things up by assigning art ll the project of A-rt ' e painting the wall. Each student was given a square ' and asked to use his imagination. The results EX were wild! Students attended a watercolor clinic in February at Northeast Oklahoma State at Mi- Of ami.
