Physical Science Club The Physical Science Club was formed to promote a general interest in the physical sciences and to promote knowledge in this field. Marion College Student Educa¬ tion Association is a pre — pro¬ fessional organization for stu¬ dents interested in becoming educators. The local chapter aims to meet the needs of the students on an individualized pattern to provide educational opportunity and Christian ideals. The Marion College chapter cooperates in programs of the Indiana SEA and is associated with the state and national teachers associations, STAand NEA. Bio Club The Biology Club is to promote an interest in the biological sciences. The club also attempts to encourage interest in nature by sponsoring Audubon films. A parade is great but it gets a little old, so a canoe race down the mighty Mis- sisinewa was planned. Everybody who ' d ever held a canoe paddle got drafted to repre¬ sent an organization or their class. Starting at Matter Park, the finish line was ten miles away at the Charles Mill Dam. Lynn Richards and Bud Dunlap soon left their competitors far behind; although they got caught in a tricky current while trying to cross the finish line backwards, they were the undisputed victors. Most people were there to see the soccer game with I.U. Tension had been building up ever since it had been scheduled. As expected, the contest was physical, nerve-shattering (for the shivering but enthu¬ siastic fans), and very close. A goal kicked in by Gordon Acton put Marion ahead 1-0 at the half, but a tied score at the end of the sec¬ ond half called for an overtime, and unfortunately, the wrong team ended up on the bottom of the 2-1 talley. Booths replaced the traditional floats, and along with a skydiving performance at the half, Homecoming ' 72 was unusual and certainly one to be remembered. _ - “Vj ■ i .i ' Jk ' ' i am an athlete  M Soccer SOCCER — Total goals scored: Marion 41, Opp. 18. Shots on goal, Marion 595, Opp. 257. Record for the 1972 season: 8-2-2. Statistics alone spell out the success of Marion College ' s own Big Red Machine. Coach Mills and Co. have de¬ veloped 4 straight winning seasons out of only 4 inter¬ collegiate campaigns. During this time, they have chalked up 34 wins against only 10 losses, a record of which to be proud. The 73 season looks equally exciting, as the Titans open up against Purdue University, and once again do battle with I.U. just remember, this time I.U. — Who ' s gonna win? We are. Jr 46 CROSS COUNTRY — The 72 season was to be one of building and adding depth. That it was, and more. Titan harriers such as sophomore Duane Drake and freshman Jeff Davis among others, com¬ bined talent and determina¬ tion to produce an outstand¬ ing 7-1 record. One of the many encouraging aspects of the 72 effort was the strength supplied by freshmen and sophomores. Women Volleyball Players on B Team Have 2-1 Season; ATeam Won 3 Lost 9 1 - 1 1 6 — Pedaling Through Texas A group of eight students and two professors hiked their way through Easter vacation, traveling through Texas along the south border. They encountered 90° temperatures, strong wind, cactus thistles, rattlesnakes, drank gal¬ lons of liquid and met a lot of friendly and interested people. Participating were: J.D. Sponsors International Weekend The International Student ' s Association is dedicated to bringing people of different cul¬ tures together to promote greater appreciation for one another. I.S.A. put together a winning booth for Homecoming which showed the countries represented by MC students and faculty. International Weekend brought to Marion ' s campus students from other colleges and universities to participate in a variety pro¬ gram for Expression, and featured a banquet of international foods. Several hundred ele¬ mentary and junior high school children visit¬ ed the exhibits and heard talks on the coun¬ tries represented.
