Mrs. Woodrow Goodman was always prepared to entertain faculty, alumni, and student groups. The presidents new manse is situated on a peaceful stretch of East 43rd Street. 18 The President's Message As a Christian college our interests include the things of the spirit as well as things of the intellect. And since both mind and soul reside in our bodies we are interested in the earthy things. Sometimes it is these latter things that take a major portion of our time and energy: new buildings, new equipment, and the funds to meet these physical needs. This is progress. Improved methods of instruction, graduate studies for the faculty, experimental curriculum, independent study programs, a curious sojourn into the byways of knowledge - these activities in the frontiers of man's intellect also indicate progress. Peace of mind in the midst of a restless generation, purpose of life, the joy of sins forgiven, and the blessings of communion with God and His people are some ex- amples of progress in the realm of the spirit. True progress of a Christian college such as ours must encompass the improvement of the earthy things concerning a physical campus, the development of the things of the mind, and the cultivation of the things that knit man's soul to his God and give eternity mean- ing in the realm of time. A balance of all these marks the best and greatest progress. Woodrow Goodman, President
