The best is yet to be, The last of life, for which the first was made: Our times are in his hand Who saith, ‘A whole I planned, Youth shows but half; trust God: see all, nor be afraid!’ ” Robert Browning, the English poet, expressed his philosophy of life in the poem, “Rabbi Ben Ezra”. A distinguished Jewish scholar of the twelfth century, Ben Ezra, by his writings, sug¬ gested the ideas used by Browning. Selected lines from this vig¬ orous poem with its undertone of faith in God have been used as the theme for the 1950 volume of the Marionette. Page two eduxUitut For the past ten years Rev. Howard T. Noggle has been Field Representative of Marion College. He has spent long hours in travel, in holding services, in talking with prospective students, and in en¬ couraging people throughout the Marion College Area to support their school. In appreciation of his work, but more especially in ap¬ preciation of the spirit in which he performs it, of his loyalty to Marion College, and of his su¬ preme devotion to God, it is to Howard Noggle that we respect¬ fully dedicate the 1950 Marionette. Williams Hall, the pro¬ posed men’s dormitory, is thus far only an architect’s drawing, but all of us are looking forward to the day when it will become a reality on the campus. The new building will house 100 men, an increase of 600 per cent over present dormitory facilities for men. F. McCONN M.A., B.O., D.D. CAROLYN FISHER Secretary to the president Through eighteen epoch-making years Dr. William F. McConn has led Marion College steadily forward. By his sincere Christian life and testimony, his untiring efforts to further the cause of Marion College, and his friendly attitude and wise counsel, our president has won a warm place in each of our hearts. Page fourteen CLIFTON A. LETHERER MURIEL A. KLAASEN Treasurer Bookkeeper For the past four years, Clifton A. Letherer has efficiently served Marion College as the manager of her financial affairs. Head¬ quarters for this organization are in the basement of the library building. From this office the Alumni Bulletin is sent out. Under the leadership of the Executive Secretary, Clarence Huffman, the alumni are carrying out a project for raising funds to build Williams Hall, the new men’s dorm¬ itory. Another activity of the club is the annual banquet given in the spring for the graduating class and for all alumni who are able to return to their Alma Mater for the occasion. The Reverend Garl Beaver is the capable president of the association. The times of revival, the inspiration and victories of Youth Week, and the reg¬ ular blessing of spiritual meals have made this a sacred place dear to our hearts. Page fifty-one VanAity QiAG itet The Varsity Quartet has been active in the ministry of the gospel through song both on and off the campus throughout this school year. Members of the quartet are Harry Connor, first tenor; James Wilson, second tenor; James Hane, baritone; and Clinton Butcher, bass. These four young men are from North Carolina; Ontario, Canada; Oklahoma; and Wisconsin, respectively. Traveling many miles as representa¬ tives for Christ and for Marion Col¬ lege, the quartet has sung for numerous organizations and churches of several denominations in Indiana, Ohio, Ken¬ tucky, and Michigan. The Lord has greatly used the quartet and blessed their message to many hearts. We have found it—a society of outstanding merit. On Rush Day 82 new students pledged their loyalty to the green and white colors and the symbol of the torch. On the softball diamond both the fel¬ lows’ and the girls’ teams proved their supremacy. Speaking of selling Marion¬ ettes, this society won the contest for the sixth consecutive year, thus claim¬ ing their second loving cup. Their per¬ centage of sales per member was 1.96 with 399 among their 204 members. Eva Gilger served as president the first term. John Basham was elected for the winter term. Dr. Dayton was again chosen as sponsor. Page sixty mm Ampluciyatt Society Ranging at the top this year in com¬ petitive spirit were the Amphics. Nothing daunted their will to reach for higher goals, and in athletics and in the Marionette Sales Contest their cap¬ ability was prominent. Melvin Welch sold 27 annuals for the Amphics, claim¬ ing the position as top salesman in the school. The Amphics had a total of 307 sales among their 192 members, mak¬ ing their percentage 1.59. Heyman Duecker led the society in the fall and through the winter term, Harry Connor was president. Prof. Main was sponsor of the society. GEORGE STREET WESLEYAN METHODIST CHURCH MY CHURCH My church is where the Word of God is preached, the power of God is felt, the Spirit of God is manifested, the love of God is revealed and the unity of God is perceived. It is the home of my soul, the altar of my devotions, the hearth of my faith, the center of my affections and the foretaste of heaven. I have united with it in solemn covenant, pledging myself to attend its services, to pray for its members, to give to its support, and to obey its laws. It claims the first place in my heart, the highest place in my mind, the principal place in my activities, and its unity, peace and progress concern my life in this world and in that which is to come. I owe it my zeal, my benevolence and my prayers. When I neglect its services, I injure its good name, I lessen its power, I discourage its members, and I chill my own soul. I have solemnly promised in the sight of God and men to advance its interests by faithful attendance, by reading the Holy Bible, by never neglecting its ordinances, by contributing to its support, by meeting with my fellow members, by watching over their welfare, and by joining with them in prayer, praise and service, and that promise I this day renew, before God my father, Christ my Redeemer, and the Holy Ghost my Sanctifier.—John Bunyan Smith.
